RapeLay is an eroge game developed and published by Illusion Soft and released on April 26, 2006, at an initial price of 9240 yen. It is legally not for sale to persons under 18 by Japan's Ethics Organization of Computer Software. The game has gained significant international attention and controversy following its release, and was banned in many countries before Illusion finally delisted it on May 29, 2009.

Why It Had to Lay Off Rape

IMPORTANT NOTE: This game is extremely controversial for reasoning explained below. No positive pointers/section will be permitted on this page.

  1. As the title may or may not imply, the game is just a semi-interactive front end on a bunch of rape porn.
  2. On that note, the daughters of the family are minors under the US law, with Manaka even being a minor under the loosest Japanese law (Not helping anymore by the fact that back on June 16, 2023, Japan escalated the minimum age of consent from 13 to 16 years of minimum, making this game even more illegal to play not only worldwide, but also in Japan as well!). This essentially classifies the game as CHILD PORNOGRAPHY!!
    • Due to the game's disgusting and illegal content, it got banned in several countries to the point where the developers delisted it.
  3. Due to his actions and unwillingness to understand what he's doing is wrong, Masaya Kimura is an incredibly unlikeable and bland villain protagonist. He's only just some pointless guy who sexually assaults women to cure his boredom, and nothing else is known about him, aside from his father. You really can't connect with the character without knowing even anything about his life and motives, and adding the aspect of him enjoying raping, no one (except for mentally deranged rapists and pedophiles) would want to relate or feel positively emotional about this abomination of a human being.
  4. Like the rest of Illusion's games, the graphics are horrible and make the game look even more disturbing.
  5. On the topic of repeated mistakes by the developers, the story is poorly elaborated.
  6. The voice acting is terrible, especially when the family members are screaming.
  7. Boring, repetitive gameplay. During Story Mode, the game has two styles of gameplay, which are different, yet still repetitive:
    • The first part is touching your target. How it works is that you have to grope them and be a pervert to them to fill a meter. Once you do so, the game progresses.
    • Considering you managed to endure the first part of the gross gameplay and awful story, now comes the second, yet worst part of the game: the rape itself! The player is given a variety of options on how they want the character to rape their victim, and it lasts indefinitely until the player decides to reach climax and continue with the story. At this point, many people would just Alt+F4 out of the game and never touch it again, due to the grotesque, uncensored content.
      • And as if that wasn't enough, apparently the game also gives you the option to impregnate the characters in the Free Play Mode that's unlocked after completing the Story once, which is unbelievably horrifying! At this point, we, the writers of the page, can confidently say that we are extremely disgusted from even just thinking of this atrocity.
  8. The game is incredibly short, as it can be completed in less than an hour.
  9. The English fan translation is downright awful, as for some reason, as you progress, the text has random signs, thus being sometimes difficult to understand what the characters say.
  10. All in all, the game's a big insult to rape and sexual abuse survivors and victims alike, especially to those that were sexually abused when they were children.
  11. No widescreen support, despite being released in 2006.
  12. The endings are just criminally terrible, although Masaya dies.
