Road to the Multiverse is the first episode of the eighth season of Family Guy and the fifth episode in the "Road to…" series, it is also often considered the best along with Road to Rhode Island.

Plot

Stewie and Brian use an "out-of-this-world" remote control to travel through a series of parallel universes.

Why It's Infinite

  1. The concept is very creative and unique about Brian and Stewie traveling to different universes.
  2. Several memorable scenes, especially the Disney Universe and it's song "It's a Wonderful Day for Pie".
  3. Most of the universes have very unique animation styles, such as the aforementioned Disney Universe.
  4. Brian and Stewie's interaction and chemistry works very well here.
  5. A lot of the characters are still likable and act like their old selves.
  6. Surprisingly very few cutaway gags on this episode unlike most Family Guy episodes.
  7. Several funny moments like the Robot Chicken universe, Stewie's pig, and Stewie and Brian in the real life universe.
  8. A few emotional scenes such as the human version of Brian deciding to live in Stewie and Brian's normal universe.
  9. This episode was a good way to begin Family Guy's dark age (Seasons 8-Present).

Bad Qualities

  1. A few mean-spirited moments such as everyone in the Disney universe beating up Mort because he's a Jew (since some people think that Walt Disney was an antisemite).
  2. Some of the jokes are weak such as Chris winning a genuine live homosexual.
  3. A couple of Meg abuse such as Meg being Ursula in the Disney universe, Japanese Meg committing suicide, and Peter farting in Meg's face.
  4. Bad Ending: Human Brian gets hit by a car after lasting only a few minutes in the normal universe.
  5. The video-game adaptation is mediocre.

Reception

Responses to the episode were highly positive; critics praised its storyline, numerous cultural references, and use of various animation styles. According to Nielsen ratings, it was watched by 10.17 million people during its original airing in the United States.

Greg Colton won a Primetime Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in Animation, for storyboarding the episode, at the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards.

PhantomStrider ranked this episode at number 10 on his Top Ten Best Family Guy Episodes video.
