"Robbie's Dream Team" is the twelfth episode of the fourth season of LazyTown. In this episode, Robbie hires three clones of himself to catch Sportacus, which falters due to their inexperience.
Why It's A Number One and the Dream Team
- To get the villains out of the room, the episode's musical number, "We Are Number One", is a memorable masterpiece, being responsible for the show's cult following and attention years after the episode aired.
- The song features great visuals, nonstop jokes and moments, and an amazing performance of Robbie Rotten (Stefán Karl Stefánsson) and his three doppelgangers.
- Robbie Rotten is an amazing antagonist who has many ways of teaching his villains, and his failures to do so are hilarious.
- All of the characters are likable.
- Non-stop hilarious jokes and moments, such as:
- The scene where Milford gives Bessie better than the "lime surprise", who then says that there was no lime in it. Milford says that that was the surprise.
- "Throw it at HIM, not ME! Ugh, let's try something else."
- The doppelgangers repeatedly say "nah" to Robbie Rotten's questions.
- "We Are Number One!"
- Mark Valenti, the writer of this episode, created a heartwarming campaign for Stefán after he announced that he had bile duct cancer, gaining immense support in months.
- In response, the late Stefán Karl live-streamed a performance of the episode's song along with the other actors (Björn Thors, Bergur Þór Ingólfsson, Snorri Engilbertsson), which was also universally acclaimed.
The Only Bad Quality
- Despite Robbie's attempts, he does not succeed in the end, although he is the villain of the show.
Reception
"Robbie's Dream Team" received universal acclaim among fans and critics, and is easily, without a doubt, the greatest episode in the show's history. Due to the episode's iconic musical number and the exceptional performance by the late Stefán Karl Stefánsson, it is responsible for ascending the show's international popularity and its presence in Internet culture. It has a 9.7/10 out of over 13,000 reviews, making it the highest-rated and most popular episode on the website. In September 2016, the episode and its musical number received renowned attention due to its presence on the SiIvaGunner bait-and-switch YouTube channel, where it was disguised as an actual song from the video game Kirby Super Star Ultra. After the actor Stefán Karl Stefánsson announced that he had been diagnosed with bile duct cancer on October 13, creators made parodies to raise awareness for his fundraiser campaign, which surpassed its $100,000 in under three months.
The newfound attention by the LazyTown team themselves prompted them to join in as well, creating an hour loop of the original song, an instrumental version, and releasing the stems of the musical number online. These memes also helped older memes such as "You Are a Pirate" and "The Mine Song" to resurface and contribute to the show's unprecedented popularity.
