Roblox is a free-to-play online game designed by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, co-founders of the Roblox Corporation. It was released first in 2006 for MacOS and Microsoft Windows, in 2012 for iOS, in 2014 for Android, and for the Xbox One in 2015. It is about users creating their own games, chatting with others, buying things for their character, and so on.

Overview

Roblox Studio

Roblox Studio is the proprietary game engine for Roblox Games are coded under an object-oriented programming system with Lua, an open-source programming language to manipulate the environment of the game. A total of 20 million games are produced using Roblox Studio each year.

Why It Used To Power Everyone's Imagination

1. The biggest advantage of Roblox is that it's completely free to create an account to play games, and even create your own games for it. Formerly, players could choose to not create an account to play Roblox as guests.
2. There are a lot of good games in Roblox such as:
   • Work at a Pizza Place by Dued1 (a game where you can make and deliver pizzas as well as make your own house), and is well known as one of the oldest games on Roblox still being updated.
   • Murder Mystery 2 by Nikilis (a popular horror, mystery game based on the Garry's Mod game called Murder)
   • Arsenal by ROLve which is a game based on the CSGO Gun game mod but fused with elements of TF2, and is one of the more popular FPS games on the platform. It also has a competitive player base with tournaments.
   • Miner's Haven by Berezaa, one of the better tycoon games on Roblox with an actual customizable base and machine setups, a massive selection of ores and crazily unique upgrades that are able to get you ridiculous amounts of cash massing more than billions!
   • ION Formula Racing (a racing game based on Codemasters's F1 series, which has its own esports league, one of the very few on Roblox),
   • Welcome to Bloxburg (Despite needs to be paid by Robux. Fortunately, it's a small quantity (precisely 25).
3. Decent recreations of existing games can be made with Roblox Studio: A Sonic the Hedgehog game that really captures the Genesis games can be found here. as well as a Doom recreation.
   • This is to the point where there is an entire wiki about it here!
4. It spawned various merchandising. Even toys were made, and they include codes you can redeem to obtain accessories for your Roblox avatar.
5. Roblox Studio itself is quite simple to use but also is very versatile at the same time making it beginner-friendly for any new developer.
   • Because of the nature of .obj and .fbx files, you can import anything into any 3D software, such as Blender, Maya, etc. unless a sub mesh has more than 10k policies.
   • It is possible to create Roblox games without coding knowledge (although this is frowned upon).
6. "Team Create" allows you and other players to build together in Roblox Studio.
7. Their Hack Week among these years in Roblox is amazing and creative.
8. The graphics have become a lot more modern since 2014 when Roblox replaced OGRE with their own engine, and from there they added elements such as dynamic lighting, neons, new UI updates, and more, although it can increase system requirements and it may break scripts from older games.
9. Since then and now, Roblox Corporation has helped people through major real-life events such as the 2013 Philippine typhoon.
10. Many tutorials on Roblox Wiki, Roblox Developers Forums, and the official Roblox Developer website that teach new and inexperienced users how to build and/or script in Roblox Studio.
11. With the Body Type and Proportion update, you can now customize your character with the newest body type scaling.
    • Rthro (also known as R30), although Roblox is supposed to be a blocky game, can receive creativity.
      • However, this avatar style flopped when it comes to players using it, due to most of them finding it to be out of place with the general environment of Roblox. Players decided to continue sticking with R6 and R15, leaving Rthro behind.
12. The new R15 avatar update makes avatars look better with bendy joints and multiple animation packs for different actions, and players can still switch from R15 to R6 avatars.
13. Roblox games use Lua for scripting and programming purposes, meaning that it is a decent starting point to figure out how to program for those who are looking to program applications and games in the future.
14. Even Roblox Corp. themselves managed to make a lot of great games such as Classic: Crossroads, Welcome to ROBLOX Building and Classic: Happy Home in Robloxia, and Doomspire. Sadly, they were all closed except Classic: Crossroads but thankfully, a lot of them got reuploaded by various players.
15. Very versatile avatar editor. You can put multiple hats or accessories on your avatar or scale the proportions of your avatar. There is also a huge variety in the Roblox avatar shop with many clothing and cool accessories for your avatar as well as body parts.
16. The Ultimate Guide Collection is very cool and it's even helpful to new Roblox players who don't know how to play it.
17. If you do a quest in Roblox, like beating an Obby, escaping a killer, or beating a story game, then you get a badge for it and there are even official Roblox badges even though they retired.

Oofed Qualities

1. It has gone horribly downhill since 2016 as they removed one of the beloved features such as TIX and one of the most controversial changes being the replacement of the original Oof death sound, not to mention the community started to become a toxic cause of trends.
2. Around 2013 through 2014, many servers in games were hacked and overrun by exploiters. One example was in June 2014 when an exploiter managed to put images of a naked woman in every Natural Disaster Survival server. The exploiter was never identified, but after numerous reports from players, the user was terminated.
3. The Roblox forums were infamous for being poorly moderated with many spam posts being kept on the site and lax enforcement of rules on troublesome users. It didn't get full control until 2017 when a YouTuber named Quackity raided them and Roblox eventually shut down the forums after this incident.
4. A sub-forum, Roblox Talk, was originally dedicated to topics regarding Roblox, which mostly consisted of internet memes (things that are against the forum rules, along with a useless post that has little to no meaning).
5. B0TM0D/MSE6, a former Roblox admin, was often accused of abusing her moderation privileges, allegedly banning users for invalid, inappropriate, or outright false reasons, and giving out inappropriate and harsh punishments.
6. Even before 2016, they sponsored some controversial stuff, for example, they had once sponsored Teen Titans Go!, which is considered to be one of the worst shows on Cartoon Network.
   • There are also some shovelware/cash-grab games before that era.
7. The graphics while great for it's time, haven't aged very well, luckily it has been improved since 2016-onwards.

Trivia

• The "Oof" death sound that plays whenever a character's health bar is depleted became a very popular internet meme even to this day.
• When the game first came out, it was called DynaBlocks, but the name was changed following its release.
