Behold, the Extreme sports game based off of a TV show that made The Simpsons Skateboarding look a masterpiece!

Genre(s): Sports
Platform(s): PlayStation
Release: September 4, 2001
Developer(s): Darkblack
Publisher(s): THQ
Series: Rocket Power

Rocket Power: Team Rocket Rescue is a sports game developed by Darkblack and published by THQ for the PlayStation and was released on September 4th, 2001. It's based off of the Nickelodeon series Rocket Power.

Plot

Here the gang's object is to help Raymundo keep Rocket Boards in business by helping with its publicity, thus hopefully staving off Sno-Mart's predatory tactics.

Why It Can't Recover Its Goods

  1. Really ugly and poor graphics that look similar to Arthur! Ready to Race.
    • This is also unacceptable considering games like Ape Escape and Rayman came out years before this, and they look way better than this game!
  2. It was released in 2001, which is late for a PS1 game, as the PS2 had already come out the year before.
  3. Poor textures that look like they were made in Microsoft Paint.
  4. Awful frame-rate in the cutscenes. In contrast, the frame-rate for other PS1 games during cutscenes is really stable such as the Harry Potter and Spider-Man franchises.
  5. Unnecessary long load times (1 minute and 2 seconds). In contrast, the load times in other PS1 games such as the Crash Bandicoot, the Tony Hawk and the Harry Potter series are much quicker.
  6. Stiff and weird controls, for example, the turning feels like your moving a tank.
  7. Terrible physics, most of the time you can't even land a trick (especially on your skateboard).
  8. The game's difficulty is inconsistent for a kids game, for example for the first BMX challenge, the score requirement is 50000, which is stupidly high and the races with Lars and his goons are extremely easy.
    • The game also doesn't even tell you what to do most of the time, for example, in the first skateboarding challenge, it says that you need 50000 points to move on, but this is false, as you actually need 143359 points to move on.
  9. Every time you fall, your character will scream in pain every time, which can get annoying.
  10. Speaking of the previous reason, all the unlockable characters don't have any voices at all!
  11. Some challenges involve locating parts of something where there's a time limit and there's no navigation system at all which means you could fail a lot.
  12. Lame ending.
  13. The special move is insanely broken and makes no sense, it makes you freeze in the air and lets you rank up points.
  14. Similar to Race with Ryan, despite being a game marketed towards kids, in the game files there are some unused error messages that contain very vulgar messages that include the F-bomb. No joke!
  15. Poor audio quality.
  16. Very short length.
  17. Many bugs and glitches. In contrast, the aforementioned games have fewer bugs and glitches.
  18. Poor lip-syncing.
  19. Lazy title screen, it's just the game's box art.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The voice acting is good, and all the original voice actors from the show, reprise their roles in the game.
  2. Awesome sounding music.
  3. A wide variety of characters with 12 characters in total (4 starters and 8 to unlock), 2 of them are even Tommy and Angelica from the Rugrats, which is cool.

Scrapped Sequel/Successor

A spiritual successor/sequel called Rocket Power: Zero Gravity Zone was in development at Visionscape Interactive in 2002 / 2003 for the Xbox, Playstation 2 and GameCube and it would have been published by THQ, but it game was canceled due to THQ's financial problems at the time, it was then reworked into a Sonic game called Sonic Extreme (Not to be confused with the cancelled Sega Saturn game Sonic Xtreme), but that was cancelled also, it was then finally reworked into a Tech Decks game and was released as Tech Decks: Bare Knuckle Grind, despite the console versions being cancelled, the GBA version was released. Prototypes of Zero Gravity Zone have been found by Jimmi Twerk and PtoPOnline, and they both uploaded gameplay footage, and Jimmi is planning on releasing his prototype online once he finds the disc.
