Rolling Sky is a platforming app that was developed & published by Cheetah Mobile. It was released on IOS and Android on January 20, 2016. In this game, you have to control a moving ball to beat levels while avoiding obstacles.
Why It Rocks
- Flawless graphics, even for 2016 standards, and even for a platforming game.
- Memorable and amazing music, the most memorable being Massif.
- Great levels, such as Cloud, Massif, Street Basketball, Relics, Volcano, Matrix, and Happy Birthday.
- The idea of a ball rolling in the sky on a platform is a well executed concept.
- Aside from the normal ball, there are plenty of good balls such as Supersonic, The Trick Ball, RS-001, Voyager II, Snowball, and The Basketball, with the best being the Pumpkin.
- The Anniversary levels were great ways to celebrate Rolling Sky's birthday, as they both use themes from the other levels, with the exception of Lov-E.
- The 1-3 star levels can be easy for beginners.
- It received a Nintendo Switch port, which was decent, despite lacking some levels.
- The game managed to have a epic comeback in December 2022 with the level, "Goblin Town", 2 years after the game went on hiatus.
- The game even manages to add fanmade levels from other Rolling Sky fangames, such as The Chaos and Cave. Which shows the developers do care about their fans, unlike other video game companies.
- The game even managed to collaborate with other artists by making levels using their songs, most notably, F-777.
Bad Qualities
- After the 4th Anniversary event box event, The 4th Anniversary was unfortunately locked under a paywall for 120 Gems, though this was thankfully fixed.
- The game is very hard at times, with offenders being Neon, World Cup, 1UP, Egypt, American Football, Castle in the Sky, Halloween, Christmas, Happy Birthday, The 4th Anniversary, and Auspicious Jade Rabbit.
- Forest was removed from the game and was turned into a mini level without any reason, though it was luckily added back.
- Unfortunately, because of Cheetah Mobile's scheme of Ad Fraud, The game was removed from the Google Play Store in March 2020. Along with it being discontinued in July 2020, meaning the only way to play it is to buy the Nintendo Switch and Steam ports, or get APKs of it. though thankfully, as mentioned earlier, the game came back 2 years later with "Goblin Town".
- The Nintendo Switch port, while decent, is inferior to the mobile versions, as it has issues, such as lacking some levels.
Trivia
- The game used to have levels related to Alan Walker and Marshmello, but they were removed due to copyright.
