Rzeźnik (English: Butcher) is a first-person shooter video game developed by TMReality and published by Play Publishing for Microsoft Windows on September 3, 2003 only in Poland.

Why It Deserves No Meat

  1. The gameplay is very boring and it would make you want to fall asleep too easily when playing the game. All you do in it is just shoot at the incoming hordes of enemies, and that's it. This pretty much makes the game a really poor Duck Hunt clone, but without the same charm Duck Hunt had.
  2. The main menu gives pretty bad impression before the player could start playing the game. The game's font is a rather generic font you could easily find on cooltext.com, and the options are just as empty as desks in the store that is about to close down due to lack of stuff. The exit is also writen as "Koniec" ("The End") instead of "Wyjście" ("Exit").
  3. False advertising:
    • The protagonist in the main menu isn't the one from the front cover, despite it looking like it shows the true protagonist.
    • You do not see the protagonist during missions at all.
    • The game offers 10 types of enemies, but there are actually only 5 of them. The other half are just duplicates of existing ones but with different colours.
  4. Speaking of the front cover, it looks very weird; it shows a guy with an idiotic smile, along with the game's title being put in two spots, with one being on the guy's forehead and one on the right side at the bottom with the annotation that says "PRZYJDZIE PO CIEBIE" ("COMES TO YOU").
  5. Typos: In the help section, the word Shift is incorrectly typed as Shit, and on the back cover of the game, Pistolet (Pistol) is mistyped as Pisotolet (Pisotol).
  6. Horrible graphics for a 2003 PC game that look like a Flash game or even an Atari Jaguar game, which is beyond unacceptable since the game was released in 2003 instead of 8 years earlier in 1995. The monsters especially look hideous and have such abysmal designs that they would basically wanna escape from this game; the water looks like something taken from Google Search and souped up completely for worse; the graphics for the blood look like they were done in MS Paint, with the white background being removed in a different program. Games such as Futurama, Bomberman Generation or even The Simpsons Skateboarding look way better than this and they we're released between 2002-2003.
  7. The weapons are underpowered and do little damage. Plus, there's no difference in any of them except for varied speed. Even the sniper, which itself is a very strong gun, deals little damage. Not to mention, it is extremely poorly represented, as not only it shoots faster than the pistol, but it does not have a lunette at all, which would look as if the developers forgot how a sniper works or at least how it looks like.
    • The only weapon that is useful because of this is the buzzsaw, which you get at the beginning of a mission, as well as a power-up.
  8. The audio is so atrocious that it pretty much makes you want to throw your speakers out of the window; most of the soundtrack is not very fun to listen to, the protagonist's hurt sounds are repetitive and will annoy you easily, and the sounds of shooting a weapon sounds like hitting a meat on a desk.
  9. Sometimes the game does not consider your cursor to be in a power-up to grab, pretty much unallowing you to grab it, even if you try to grab it like a million times until it disappears.
  10. The controls are shockingly bad for a game which only uses the mouse. Not only does the cursor jump too much after a few pixels, but sometimes it keeps shooting until you press the left mouse button again. You can pretty much after a long series of shooting let your finger go off your left mouse button, and the game will still think you laid a brick on your mouse and it doesn't stop until you press the button again, which is very unacceptable for a game which only uses the mouse to control.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Unlike various other crappy games by Play Publishing, this game has decent optimization, and the game doesn't crash too often.
  2. While most of the soundtrack is pretty bad, "Misja 1" (Mission 1), despite being slightly loud, is pretty catchy to listen to.

Reception

Rzeźnik was not well-received by players, most of which criticized the graphics, as well as the gameplay. On Gamepressure, the game has a 2.1/10 rating from users.[1]
