Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed is an action-platforming game developed by Altron and published by THQ in 2004. The game is based on the movie of the same name.

Why It Sucks

  1. This game has really sluggish controls, making it hard to navigate through the levels, which is basically a chore.
    • The animation is even worse, as the framerates are choppy, especially in the Microsoft Windows version.
  2. Not only is this game a cash-grab from the movie, but it's a very lazy one at best, with terrible graphics that look like an early PlayStation game.
    • The movie was already bad, so why did they think making a game based off of the movie would be any better?
  3. As said, the graphics are abysmal, which is very unacceptable for 2004 standards. And not to mention the PC version of the game is even worse, with ugly 3D models of the characters, making them feel like lifeless toys than actual characters in general.
  4. Boring gameplay: The gameplay in general doesn't match with the movie that this game is supposed to be based on. In fact, this game has similar problems to what Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase has, but worse than that game.
  5. Speaking of character models, the GBA version of said game has even worse graphics, that it makes Mortal Kombat Advance look good by comparison. And to add insult to injury, this game is a re-hash of the Scooby-Doo The Movie game, but even uglier than the previous game.
  6. The boss fights are generic at best, and the enemies are laughable at worst, when comparing this to the rest of the game.
    • Not to mention that when you attack with different characters, the animation is delayed, making it harder to damage enemies at all.
  7. The character costume designs are laughable at best.
  8. The only way to view the ending of the Game Boy Advance version was to get the cheat code from the post-credits scene of the movie itself (or searching it up on the internet), since the game was released before the movie, and this is what they thought was a good way to prevent spoilers for the film. What's worse is that this code is literally the title of the movie in initials, SD2, so anyone could've figured it out without watching it.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Decent soundtrack.
  2. Matthew Lillard, Neil Fanning, Linda Cardellini, Alicia Silverstone and Scott McNeil return to voice in the game.

Reception

The game received mixed to mostly negative reviews on Metacritic, giving it a score of 46 out of 100, Nintendo Power gave the Game Boy Advance version a score of 1.9 out of 5, and GameZone gave it a score of 3/10.
