Secret Agent Clank (known as Clank & Ratchet: Maru Hi Mission * Ignition in Japan) is a 2008 platform game developed by High Impact Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable. Sanzaru Games developed the PlayStation 2 version of Secret Agent Clank. The game is the sixth game in the classic Ratchet & Clank series, the seventh in the overall series, and the last Ratchet & Clank game on the PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation Portable.

Why It Rocks

  1. Clank takes over as the primary character for gameplay, taking the role of Secret Agent Clank, who has similar gameplay as Ratchet.
  2. Stealth gameplay gives Clank more experience if he completes sections of the level without being detected.
  3. High quality graphics and polished sound effects.
  4. Clank can use lots of spy gadgets and weapons to use, such as the Tie-a-rang, Tanglevine Carnation, Blowtorch Briefcase, Blackout Pen, and more.
  5. All weapons in the game are upgradable up to level four. Each upgrade makes the weapon more powerful, and the level four upgrade changes the appearance of the weapon drastically as well as giving it a new ability.
  6. In "Challenge Mode" (this game's term for new game plus) you can purchase Proto (Clank)/Titan (Ratchet) weapon upgrades for weapons already at level 4 which allow you level up the weapon to level 8, and make the weapon even stronger.
  7. Ratchet is in jail and can fight like he did in the original series in arena battles.
  8. All of Ratchet's weapons that he had in Size Matters are in their upgraded forms from the prequel, and can be upgraded into another form again.
  9. Captain Qwark can be played in 3D zones for the first time in the series.
  10. Many optional missions and mini games.
  11. The Gadgetbots are also playable in certain areas.
  12. Many secret items lie hidden on every level.
  13. Travel through different planets from around the galaxy, each with its own environment, enemies and obstacles.
  14. Multiple skill points, which are gained by performing certain tasks, unlock cheat codes to use.

Bad Qualities

  1. Clank's Heli-Pack is replaced with Jet Boots, which make him glide extremely slowly.
  2. None of the rhythm sequences are synchronized to the music, meaning that they are placed for padding or just as a glorified quick time event. The first one is okay (it makes sense to have rhythm in a scene in which you dodge lasers ala Ocean Twelve), but they get worse, to the point that there is a rhythm sequence for a poker/trivia game. What does rhythm have to do with poker AND trivia?
  3. The plot is a convoluted McGuffin hunt.
  4. The game creates plot holes and errors in the series due to it forcing itself into the continuity with disregard to the rest of the series. According to Insomniac Games both Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank are both canon to the original series, however they say that it was an episode/movie of Secret Agent Clank.
  5. The arena battle in the shower. Ratchet is naked in the arena except for holding a towel. He loses his towel after taking enough damage and a black censor bar appears where his crotch and butt would be.
  6. The PlayStation 2 version is an inferior port of the game due to the fact that the game was made specifically for the PSP.
