Shamu's Deep Sea Adventures (also known as SeaWorld: Shamu's Deep Sea Adventures, or SeaWorld: Shamu's Big Adventure) is an action-adventure video game published by Activision, based on the SeaWorld amusement park.

Why It Sucks

  1. It is just an obvious cash grab made to promote SeaWorld, meaning you are better off going to the actual amusement park instead of playing this game.
  2. Poor and awkward swimming controls that can be limited at times and don't really match with the level design. It basically plays like a poor man's version of Hungry Shark Evolution.
  3. The Tail Fluke Smash ability is useless as it's the only way you can defeat enemies, but it can be unresponsive sometimes, resulting in you taking lots of damage.
  4. The game can be very difficult at times for its target audience, which is young children.
  5. The minigames are unnecessary as they are boring, simple, and tedious altogether. They were seemingly only added for the sake of artifical padding.
  6. The tutorial of the game, Shamu's Training, lasts for about 10 minutes, not helping that it's very slow-paced.
  7. The game is very short, as it can be beaten in under 2 hours.
  8. One of the levels has an error.
    • In Kraken's Trail, the goal of the level is to lose Kraken, but the text for once you complete it says "Objective Complete: Following the Kraken".
  9. The final boss against Poseidon can be quite difficult to beat due to the poor controls as stated above, and it can be hard to see where the energy balls are to use Tail Fluke Smash to damage him.
  10. There is no reason for the game to have up to 10 save slots, as the game can be beaten in a short amount of time, making it feel redundant.
  11. Despite being based on an amusement park, there isn't much going on in the game, not to mention it can get boring really quickly, especially the tutorial.
  12. There is no point of this game being released for the Game Boy Advance when it was also released for the Nintendo DS, and both versions of the game are nearly identical.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The soundtrack is passable.
  2. The concept of making a video game on SeaWorld isn't inherently a bad idea, but it was executed poorly in this game.
  3. It allows you to watch clips from the amusement park through the game.

Reception

The game received mixed-to-negative reviews.
