Shrek: Dragon's Tale is an edutainment adventure game, that was released by Vtech on the V.Smile in 2006.
Why This Game Tells a Bad Tale
- For starters, this game is infamous for stealing music from Nintendo's games, which makes it an asset thief. There are also a few incidents that the game steals stuff from other games as well.
- Two songs in the game are stolen from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The Haunted Woods theme is the lost woods theme, and the potion-mixing minigame uses the house theme from said game as well. How did Nintendo not sue Vtech for allowing this game on the market?
- When you start a level, the music for the storybook is stolen from Super Mario All Stars' underwater theme.
- When you collect an item inside of a bubble, the sound effect is stolen from Banjo-Kazooie.
- As expected from the V.Smile hardware, the graphics look like they came from an SNES game at best.
- Extremely choppy animations, as many of the character animations look like they are missing frames.
- A majority of the music is very bad, and a few of them sound completely awful. Even the stolen tracks sound awful, thanks to the bad hardware which results in the music being of lower quality.
- The game is very short, as it can be beaten in just an hour or less.
- There's even a typo on the game cover, shown in the image, as well. It says, "learning ststem", when it's supposed to say, "learning system", instead.
The Only Redeeming Quality
- The voice actors from the films reprise their roles in the game.
