Shrek Swamp Kart Speedway is a 2002 kart racing game released for the Game Boy Advance in 2002. It was developed by Prolific Publishing and published by TDK Mediactive.

Why It Belongs In The Swamp

  1. To get Puss in Boots out of the bag, this game is a rip-off of Mario Kart: Super Circuit. You see, the layouts of these two games look very similar to each other. Try comparing both games and you'll see what we mean.
  2. The graphics looks poor and bland. Shrek in the title screen and especially the multiplayer screen looks terrifying, especially his teeth. Most of the tracks alone look to nauseous enough to give you a headache due to color pallet and some overuse some pallets. Even the playable characters alone look bad as well regardless if you're in the character select screen or playing as them.
  3. The sound in the game is ear-bleeding, especially when your kart makes a wheel sound or gets a booster. Especially since the sound alone comes from a Game Boy Advance game.
  4. The soundtrack is horrible. The songs in the game sound like something you would expect from a low quality music maker. To prove this to you, why don't you compare it to other GBA games with substantial music caliber such as Golden Sun (The Lost Age) or Fire Emblem (The Blazing Sword, The Binding Blade, and The Sacred Stones). The soundtrack itself is just the same thing over again in each race. That's lazy and repetitive.
  5. The races feel so sluggish that it seems like that the characters are not lively enough to be in a race.
  6. The controls of this game are just terrible. When you're driving, you start to realize that you're car doesn't feel right all thanks to the controls. It's like the steering wheel is messed up. Your car is driving too fast that it could be the reason why the controls are not even good.
  7. Frustrating car physics: Every time you hit something, you ultimately loose momentum. And when you're off track, you barely go slow despite being off the road. Due to the car's speed, it's too hard to tell what's coming hazard wise.
  8. Donkey's sprite in the game looks inaccurate. Donkey is grey, but the sprites in this game is more brown.
  9. False advertising: Shrek in the box art is seen in a more unique car that resembles his wooden portable toilet, while Donkey is wearing sunglasses. However, the game does not feature this as Shrek is driving in a generic looking orange car while Donkey isn't even wearing sunglasses.
    • Another false advertising moment is when Donkey appears on the cover in both the front and back. However, you then realize that Donkey is unlockable.
  10. The voice clips are annoying every time when you were to hit another driver. This includes Shrek saying "bye bye".
  11. Hazzards and walls blend too much with the track like notably in Donkey's Giant Log Morass or Gingerbread Village Dash. It's hard to see them sometimes.
  12. Monsieur's Tree Top Hood is just a rehash of Donkey's Giant Log Morass only with some minor differences like the background and shortcuts.
  13. The game also has a content that doesn't even appear in the movie. It just feels too out of place like Country Hustle.
  14. Parapet Peril is by far the most unfairly hard because this is where the flaws play a huge role in this track, even if it's easy mode.
  15. When you win the entire game, you don't get nothing but the credits. Not even a congratulations screen.
  16. For some reason, Gingy and The Three Blind Mice are presumably scaled to the size of other characters which is stupid since these characters are small to begin with.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. Some of the tracks do have a colorful and nice look.

Reception

Shrek Swamp Kart Speedway received negative reviews from critics. It got a 27/100 rating from critics on Metacritic. It criticized for being rip-offs of Mario Kart: Super Circuit, with bland gameplay and graphics, and awful soundtrack.
