Simba the King Lion is an Italian/North Korean animated series that consists about 52 episodes in a season that was released in 1996 through 1997 and was distributed by Mondo TV plus the next series is Simba Jr. Goes to N.Y. and the World Cup.
Plot
The King Lion (similar to Mufasa) was shot by poachers in the presence of his three cubs. This is one step in Shere Khan's plot to overthrow the King from his throne. Little Simba suspects something strange, and subconsciously feels that Shere Khan (similar to Scar) was to be his great enemy in the future.
Simba and his two sisters are adopted by the wolf-pack, who has already raised Mowgli, the human. The wolves and the other animals of the Jungle will teach them everything they need to know. Buckshot, an orphaned fawn whose parents (similar to Bambi's mother who was killed by the unseen man, but not The Great Prince since he's alive) were killed by Shere Khan and Kurdy, will soon become Simba's best friend and companion, accompanying him both in adventures and reverie.
Together, with the help of their friends of the Jungle, the two will become strong and wise so that Simba will one day sit on the throne of the Jungle.
Why It Doesn’t Become The King Lion
- Mediocre animation, probably because this series was brought by Mondo TV, and also animated by SEK Studio, an animation studio in North Korea.
- Ridiculously idiotic plot.
- The show is full of rip-offs, especially The Lion King and The Jungle Book, with some Kimba: The White Lion.
- Simba's name is taken from the main character of The Lion King.
- Shere Khan is essentially Scar as a tiger.
- Shere Khan, Kaa, Baloo and Bagheera were all taken from The Jungle Book, which is somewhat excusable because the original books were already in the public domain.
- Buckshot is an obvious rip-off of Bambi.
- One death scene ripped off The Land Before Time.
- Ludwig looks too much like the Mockingbird from The King and the Mockingbird.
- Misplaced wildlife. The show takes place in the African jungle, but there are Red deer, Brown bears, Red foxes, Tigers (which are from Asia), Indian wolves, Asian elephants, Dogs (which are not from the wild), and even a Dinosaur (which should have been extinct).
- As said from Saberspark, it looks like something that came right from DeviantArt.
- Forgettable characters.
- There are some inappropriate moments, including pedophilia references and a scene where a hyena inexplicably licks Shere Kahn's rear end.
- The show received two sequel series titled Simba Jr. Goes to N.Y. and the World Cup and Winner and the Golden Child.
- Laughable voice acting.
Redeeming Qualities
- Some of the characters are cute.
- The original Italian dub is underrated.
- At least it is not one of those North Korean propaganda cartoons.
- Some people may enjoy it.
