Skate or Die 2: The Search for Double Trouble is a skateboarding themed action/adventure video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System developed and published by Electronic Arts on September 1990. It is a sequel to Skate Or Die developed by Atari.

Why The Game Should Die Rather Than Skating

  1. Terrible looking graphics that are nothing but a downgrade to the previous game, the character portraits and the cutscene images do not have any shading or detail to them whatsoever, and the faces the characters make are strange.
    1. Sometimes the character designs suddenly change in cutscenes, for example in one cutscene CJ is seen wearing a purple camisole (tank top) but later in the cutscene she is suddenly wearing a green or purple t-shirt instead. The same goes for the main character, who in gameplay is seen wearing a red t-shirt but in some cutscenes he is wearing a long-sleeve instead.
    2. Many of the characters in the game, just recycle the protagonist's sprites. But with minor modifications.
  2. Awful plot: The game starts off with the main character skating around town, until a character named Icepick distracts him. Resulting in him accidently running over the mayor's wife poodle Fifi, and that results in skateboarding getting banned. Instead of the protagonist simply apologizing to the mayor's wife explaining that it was a accident, he straight up instead shoots her with the paint ball gun and then she explodes into pieces. But after that it suddenly changes the plot to instead have hero build a ramp for the skate park, despite the fact the mayor banned skateboarding.
  3. Many of the levels tend of recycle the same graphics, but with minor modifications to them.
  4. Terrible enemy A.I, all they really do is move around all over the place. And while shooting the player, missing their shots. Making you avoid the enemies easily.
  5. Some moments of the game, completely make no sense at all.
    1. As mentioned in reason 2, the mayor's wife once defeated explodes into pieces.
    2. A portable fan, does not require a switch to turn on. But in one of the cutscenes in the game where Rodney is making the plans, the protagonist turns on the wrong switch and the portable fan turns on for no reason and blows the papers away.
  6. The game is very short, it only has 4 levels. And the game can be beaten in under a hour.
  7. The ramp mode of the game, has barely any improvements over the first game. Except for a new small ramp in the middle of the ramp and you can move freely.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Great soundtrack composed by Rob Hubbard, in which sounds great for the NES.
  2. The voice samples sound pretty good for a late NES game.
  3. While the graphics are terrible, they look way better than the first game.

Reception

While the game is considered to be better than the first game, it still got negative reviews from players and critics. The game was rated a 2.5/5 by GameSpot and a 1.6/5 by Glitchwave.
