Snoopy Presents: Lucy's School is the Back to School special and the forty-ninth Peanuts TV special based on the comic strip by Charles M. Schulz. It began streaming on Apple TV+ on August 12, 2022.
Summary
The Peanuts gang are anxious about starting at a new school in the fall, inspiring Lucy to start her own school instead, but teaching isn’t as easy as it sounds.
Why it Nearly Got an Endless Summer
- The plot is very creative.
- Excellent animation from WildBrain Studios like the last three specials.
- Lucy Van Pelt once again is portrayed well in this special like in For Auld Lane Syne. She believes that she knows everything needed to pass the test, and is willing to teach her friends (even Snoopy) what she knows so they can pass the test and have an endless summer. Even though she doesn't really know everything. She admits that and also the fact that she is scared of going to the new school like everyone else is.
- Speaking of which, the special did a great job capturing the children's fears of going to a bigger school and it's also relatable.
- The Summer Montage at the beginning is fun to watch.
- The mean-spirited moments were toned down.
- It was a nice tribute to teachers.
Bad Qualities
- Even though Lucy is likable in this special, her teaching shows very little of such (granted, she's just a child), even Marcie tried pointing this out to her during bingo, however when Linus shows Lucy what the passing test looks like, she discovers that she doesn’t know anything about it and that she hasn’t taught anything about it.
- The rest of the gang (except for Linus, Marcie, and Franklin) were gullible into thinking that Lucy would actually teach them everything just so they can pass the test. However, it's understandable they wanted to tag along so they could have summer forever (in other words, not have to go to school at all) and no kid could resist that.
