Someday You’ll Find Her, Charlie Brown is the 22nd television special based off the popular Peanuts comic strip. It originally aired on CBS on October 30, 1981.

Plot

Charlie Brown watches a football game on television when he spots the girl of his dreams. He is then crushed when the game is over and feels that he’ll never see her again. Wanting to meet his true love, he enlists Linus to help find her.

Bad Qualities

  1. Charlie Brown acts VERY out-of-character and really creepy in this episode, going far enough to stalk a girl he saw on TV for only TWO seconds.
    1. Also, Charlie Brown acts like such a coward and a wimp in this episode as he literally has Linus do all the talking for him as if he can't fend for himself which is just honestly painful to watch.
    2. Additionally, Charlie Brown also acts like a bitter jerk that always seems in a bad mood, which makes the episode really unpleasant.
  2. Linus is really annoying and unlikable in this episode, being oblivious and stupid. He also lies to Charlie Brown saying that he will see his signals, but he doesn't. He also steals Charlie Brown's girl and showboats to him. (Though depending on your view, Charlie Brown did put all of this on himself by having Linus do everything for him, resulting in him losing his love life to the latter, but it still doesn't justify Linus ignoring him.) What makes this worse is that this wouldn't be the last time Linus does this.
    1. Also, Linus doesn't just act like a jerk to Charlie Brown though, he also acts like a jerk to the teenager on the phone call, which really doesn't seem in-character.
  3. The plot is really messy, giving the episode a lot of unfortunate implications.
  4. It's really boring.
  5. The voice acting can be mediocre. Charlie Brown sounds like he has a throat-ache, Linus sounds robotic, and the teenager has an awful voice.
  6. The episode is pretty harsh towards both friends.
  7. The Snoopy and Woodstock moments, despite being entertaining, is just filler.
  8. The ending is a massive downer.
  9. The plot is just a typical "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" plot and the twist is honestly predictable.
  10. Terrible dialogue such as repeated lines like "The game's over!" and "I've got to find her!" and stupid lines like "OH, YOU EVEN KNOW HER NAME, YOU BOUNDER!!!",
  11. This episode especially suffers when you compare it to BETTER love-related Peanuts cartoons and strips, like You're in Love, Charlie Brown, and especially The Peanuts Movie (which was made 34 years later)where Charlie Brown actually had a happy ending because he was very compassionate to The Little-Red-Haired Girl so the reward was very much justified.

Good Qualities

  1. The song at the end is really beautiful.
  2. The Snoopy and Woodstock segments are good.
  3. Decent animation.
  4. Some funny moments.
  5. The scene were it looks like the cat is gonna attack Linus, only for it to cuddle up to him is a very cute and touching moment,
  6. A couple of characters can be likeable, like Loretta and Mary Jo.

Reception

  • It holds a rating of 7.4/10 on IMDB, and was nominated for 2 Emmy Awards: Outstanding Animated Program & Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animated Programming.

Trivia

  • The cat that attacks Woodstock, Charlie Brown and Linus resembles Brutus from the 1977 movie, "Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown".
