Sonic Pinball Party is a video game released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. It is a celebration of sorts for Sonic Team featuring many references to its previous games, mostly prominently Sonic the Hedgehog, Nights into Dreams, and Samba De Amigo. There was also a release on a Twin Pack cartridge bundled with Sonic Battle and Sonic Advance respectively in 2005.
Plot
The story is set in Casinopolis (in Station Square), where Doctor Eggman turns the people gambling into robots, and brainwashes Miles "Tails" Prower and Amy Rose. Sonic must rescue his friends by winning a pinball tournament called the "Egg Cup Tournament."
Why It's a Party
- Like most Sonic games, the soundtrack is pretty good, even if it's not as good as some other games in the series.
- Like the Sonic Advance series, the game has gorgeous pixel art and graphics.
- The game tries to mimic the physics of a real pinball machine, and it works decently; the game is even pretty fun, though not as fun as Sonic Spinball.
- Good controls.
- The story mode is very nice and is the best mode of the game; it even has storylines between opposing characters. It also has a lot going on, such as when Tails and Amy became evil (due to being possessed) toward Sonic, and he had to win the match when opposing him to make them go back to their normal spirits.
- The game has a good level of replay value, and it has improved from Sonic Spinball.
- For a pinball game, the plot is surprisingly decent and superior to other pinball games due to the story mode.
- Characters from Samba de Amigo and Night Into Dream appear in this game, which is a nice touch.
- The multiplayer mode is a welcome addition.
Bad Qualities
- Only the right launcher is usable.
- Can't access the left launcher.
- Launchers can't be used with the L and R buttons, unlike Mario Pinball Land.
- The story mode is pretty short, as you can beat it in under 2 hours.
Reception
Sonic Pinball Party received positive reviews from critics who praised the graphics and gameplay, stating that it has "enough extras to keep any Sega fan enthralled.
