Spider-Man: Return of the Sinister Six is a 1992 video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System developed by Bits Studios and published by the infamous LJN. It is based on the Marvel Comics characters Spider-Man and the Sinister Six.

Plot

Doctor Octopus with the help of the Sinister Six, is setting his master plan into action to take over the world, so our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has to defeat all of them and save the world.

Gameplay

In this game, you play as none other than Spider-Man. To attack, you press A and to jump you press B.

Why It Sucks

  1. You only get one life and one continue. You can't earn extra continues either.
  2. The land mines are next to invisible and easy to hit because they can easily blend into the background.
  3. Your life gauge doesn't replenish between levels. In a game where you only have one life and one continue, there's no reason for this.
  4. The first boss flies around aimlessly and is hard to hit, and you have to turn on a switch before you can damage him at all, but the switch looks like a part of the background so it's hard to find.
  5. The music is horrible, whereas a few of the games that LJN published (like Terminator 2 on NES) actually had good music and weren't even bad games, to begin with.
  6. Poor controls (B to jump and A to attack). The web swinging mechanic is also difficult to use properly.
  7. To jump kick, you have to double-tap A really fast. Timing it too slowly results in a normal attack.
  8. The hit detection is picky, and it is hard to land a hit on the enemies.
  9. The enemy's death animations are cheesy and make no sense. Whenever you kill an enemy or boss they literally shatter into little pieces like the bricks in Super Mario Bros.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The graphics are decent and resemble a comic book in 8-bit style.
  2. As stated earlier, the title cards look cool and are very detailed.
  3. The web swinging, while badly executed, was still an innovative game mechanic.
