Spore is a video game developed by Maxis Software, designed by Will Wright and distributed by Electronic Arts. In Spore, the player has control over the evolution of a species through five (Cell Stage, Creature Stage, Tribal Stage, Civilization Stage, and Space Stage) species. each with different mechanics/gameplay.

Why It's Amazing

  1. The idea of creating your creature/cell, as well as buildings, vehicles (the last two are from the Civilization Stage) and even planets (of which the last one is with DLC Galactic Adventure) it was pretty amazing, unique and innovative, even for a 2008 game.
    • This advanced creation technology was an important milestone for the gaming industry, as this idea was very original and innovative.
  2. Satisfying and smooth gameplay, the biggest example being Stage Cell.
  3. Tons of memorable and unforgettable musics, like title theme, the music while you play the Creature Stage, the music when you complete Cell Stage (even though it's a short loop, this music is still satisfying), and much more, the musics were so beautiful that they even won the award in 2008.
  4. Beautiful, gorgerous and eye-catching graphics, the graphics in this game have aged well.
  5. You can share your Spore creations on Sporepedia, and it still works! Despite the game not receiving an update and not even getting its sequel.
  6. Lots of cool mods to download.
  7. The game was so popular that it got a lot of cool spin-offs, like Spore Origin (Spore mobile version), Spore Hero (Spore for Wii only) and Spore Creatures ("Made for Kids" Spore) and got a sequel, Darkspore.
  8. And because of these redeeming qualities, people still play this game, even though it is very outdated.

Bad Qualities

  1. This game has a lot of bugs, It's obvious that EA was involved in the production of this game, examples are this, this, this and this, heck, there's even a Spore Wiki article listing the bugs and how they happen .
  2. EA insisted Will Wright implement SecuROM (modified version of DRM), this caused people to just sue EA for not warning that it had SecuROM, and that it would remain on the hard drive, and because of this, it caused people to illegally download Spore, since there would be no DRM when downloading illegally, and because of the DRM controversy, Spore became one of the most pirated games in history.
    • Heck, this game, five stars, all users gave it one star in Australia all because of SecuROM.
  3. Executive meddling: In the demo in 2005, the game had the Aquatic Stage, the creatures walked more realistically, well, the game would be more scientific than familiar and would have blood (even the first trailer showed that it will have these), unfortunately, after the demo, EA voted on whether the game would be more familiar or scientific, all the employees wanted a familiar game, only Will Wright chose scientific, this caused further delay in production, drastically altering gameplay.
  4. The game did not receive a sequel (Darkspore does not count)/remake/reboot, despite being a great game, which is very sad, even people want a sequel to this game, there are even mockbusters of this game in mid-2020.
  5. Complexity is the most neglected feature of the game, as this feature limits the number of body/vehicle/building parts, this can be justified as there are weak computers, as well as the long loading of parts of things.

Trivia

  • Spore Creature Creator was released before this main game, in Creature Creator, you could just create your any creature, if you buy Spore while you have Spore Creature Creator, the mentioned game will be uninstalled.
    • The game itself was a demonstration for the public.
  • Darkspore is actually a sequel to that game, despite the different gameplay of this game (LoL style), people mistakenly consider this game as a spin-off.
  • People still want a sequel to this game (Darkspore is a sequel to this game, but people think this game is a spin-off), although the game itself received an update in 2020, but it's just Steam cosmetics, which can understand that Maxis hasn't forgotten about this game.
  • There is an Easter Egg in the title menu, if you make the galaxy turn like a fast merry-go-round, many photos will come out of the galaxy, and all the photos are the people who developed this game.
  • Even though this game has been released for years, people still play this game because of WIA#1.
  • The game has no ending, the closest thing to being an ending is going to the center of the galaxy when in the Space Stage, and the cutscene will appear, with Steve appearing (a UFO that is a reference to the UFO from The Sims City), congratulating you.
  • There was going to be a movie based on this game and it was going to be with Blue Sky in 2009, but because of development hell until 2019 and the closure of Blue Sky, it was cancelled.
