To endure such a harsh job... for the sake of another, for the sake of something greater than oneself... That isn't something that just anyone would do. I truly admire that." - Loid Forger

Spy × Family (stylized as SPY×FAMILY and pronounced "spy family") is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga series of the same name by Tatsuya Endo. The series broadcasts on TV Tokyo in Japan. It has been streamed by Crunchyroll outside of Asia. The series is distributed by Muse Communication in the rest of the Asia-Pacific region.
Summary
It follows master spy Twilight, who must disguise himself as psychiatrist Loid Forger and build a mock family in order to investigate political leader Donovan Desmond. Unbeknownst to him, his wife, Yor, is actually an assassin known as the Thorn Princess, while his daughter, Anya, has telepathic abilities.
Why It's "So Cool"
- An amazing concept of mixing spy action-drama with wholesome Slice-Of-Life and as well used to give great character development to Loid, Anya and Yor.
- Very humorous moments especially with Anya trying to act like a spy, Yor's clumsiness and getting drunk.
- Very likable characters especially the protagonists who will always protect Anya while fighting other spies, terrorists and corrupt government officials.
- Loid is at times a cranky and stubborn but deep down caring and will protect and look out for Anya at any cost and protect Westalists from wars and terrorists.
- Anya is a telepath and young girl who's mainly the wholesome part of the series and does lots of comedic antics such as trying to be a spy and using her telepathic powers in most humorous situations.
- Yor is an assassin of the group known as Garden who at first is a bit stoic and shy. Her actual personality is protective, expressive and like Loid, will do anything to protect and give care for Anya. She also tends to be clumsy and comically drunk.
- Great animation, visuals and art style which captures the action and Slice-Of-Life theme of the series as well as the Cold War like setting it's set in.
- It's not afraid to talk about dark themes such as war, government corruption and inhumane experimentation and will still have serious sides to it.
- The opening theme perfectly suit the genres and wholesomeness of the series which the sequences usually show Loid and Yor taking care, protecting and looking out for Anya as well as fighting evil with their usual occupations.
- So far it's very faithful to the manga with minor changes, has almost no filler and great pacing as well.
- Very well-done Japanese and English voice acting.
- The iconic grenade proposal scene in which Loid tosses the grenade as the opposing force and gives the ring part as a wedding ring for Yor in their fake marriage and promise to hide their identities as a fake family.
- Most of the face expressions range Anya makes range from cute to being very comical such as being shocked since she's with a spy and a assassin.
- Similar to Chuck, they both parody the spy genre and tropes though Spy X Family does it a little different which it doesn't parody nerd culture and sitcom situation which Chuck does.
- It avoids using negative parent tropes that many anime and cartoons use (mostly children-aimed) and parent characters in this are more competent and smarter than most animated shows/films portray them.
Bad Qualities
- The animation can get a bit stilted though usual for Cloverworks
- Franky can get annoying at times usually when he pesters Loid not to get into other people's line of work.
- Loid's drunkenness, while hilarious, can be offensive to some people.
