Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. (commonly known as Square Enix) is a Japanese entertainment conglomerate and video game company best known for its Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Kingdom Hearts role-playing video game franchises, among numerous others.

The original Square Enix Co., Ltd. was formed in April 2003 from a merger between Square and Enix, with the latter as the surviving company. At the time, 80% of Square Enix staff were made up of former Square employees.

In October 2008, Square Enix conducted a company split between its corporate business and video game operations, reorganizing itself as the holding company Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd., while its internally domestic video game operations were formed under the subsidiary Square Enix Co., Ltd.

In 2009, Square Enix acquired British game publisher Eidos Interactive, which was absorbed into Square Enix Europe to publish titles such as Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Just Cause. Square Enix is headquartered at the Shinjuku Eastside Square Building in Shinjuku, Tokyo, and has over 5,000 employees worldwide through its base operations and subsidiaries.

Contents 1 Good Qualities 2 Bad Qualities 3 Trivia 4 References 5 Videos 6 Comments Good Qualities Lots of great and widely known role-playing franchises such as Chrono , Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts. They kept the Taito branding distinct from Square Enix. As a result, not all Taito developed games were published by Square Enix. The most notable thing about the company is its innovative technology development. When Yosuke Matsuda became a ceo for Square Enix approval processes for games became more quicker and even if it would never come through, it still would at some point. Their European subsidiary is behind some franchises such as Hitman (until 2016), Tomb Raider, Deus Ex and Just Cause. They are involved in making the Play Arts Kai figurines. High quality cinematics one of the most memorable is Aerith's death in Final Fantasy VII and the spontaneous combustion scene in Parasite Eve. They saved Eidos from shutting their doors. Always make realistic and beautiful graphics. They care about their IPs a lot. When they remaster games, they usually add extra content to the remasters. Same thing with remakes, where they also expand the plot, for example in Final Fantasy VII Remake. They support all consoles, even if they're dying or not selling well, like the PlayStation Vita. Before they merged, they made some of the foundations of Japanese role-playing games, as Enix created Dragon Quest. This game also made RPG games more found in Japan itself. They opened a brand new studio dedicated exclusively to creating retro RPGs. They are very interested in feedback for their games and for the companies future as well. They even asked fans what one game they would want Square Enix to make. They take their time for creating games such as delaying Dragon Quest XI on the switch due to it having a outdated game engine. They consider lootboxes to be very bad for business. And they defended single player games as well from the claims of Electronic Arts. They gave out $10,000 in scholar ship funds as part of promoting Life is Strange. Many of their games have memorable soundtracks. Incredible art design especially from Tetsuya Nomura. The Square Enix Collective is a program where they give feedback and resources and also complete creative freedom to indie developers and they ask the fanbase if this is something they would like to support. The collective has allowed anyone to pitch ideas for the Gex, Fear Effect, and Anachronox series; with Fear Effect Sedna being released in 2018. They deeply appreciate fan support from memes to cosplay and when Shinji Hashimoto found about the photoshopped Noctis and his friends meme he found it humorous and even encouraged fans to create more of it to help promote the game. They have an interest in nurturing the talent of younger developers within their company as well. Especially when how few of the original core members are no longer with Square Enix. They make really high quality merchandise one such for example is a Batman statue designed by Tetsuya Nomura. It originally came from a cancelled game project. They are also highly involved in anime production and manga publishing through Gangan Comics and many series like Black Butler or FullMetal Alchemist were published. Now they are also expanding more publishing into the west to help support the manga scene in the west. They also run Square Enix stores and cafes as well physically in Japan. They have been focusing on region specific games to help appeal to different players. They are also highly interested in collaborating with other developers. Even when games are released in the west they still keep things true to its Japanese roots instead of catering towards westernization. Square Enix is one of the few big companies that provides a demo version of any modern game. They created a Youtube Channel exclusively for their games' music where anyone can listen to it and without the need to fight piracy, something that many developers should do. The soundtracks are also made with playlists in mind, such as one playlist that's composed of Square Enix relaxing/studying music. Bad Qualities Thanks to Square's unholy practices and decisions since 2020, as well as publishing several critical and commercial failures, they sadly landed a page dedicated to those on Crappy Games Wiki.

Trivia They had to cancel an event due to a death threat from a disgruntled fan threatening to repeat the Kyoto animation fire. References
