Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones is an action game released in 2002 for the GBA, developed by David A. Palmer Productions and published by THQ. It is based on the movie of the same name. The game was met with so much negative reception from critics, gamers and Star Wars fans alike that it has been deemed to be one of the worst Star Wars games ever.

Plot

The game follows roughly the same plot as the movie, with the player assuming the roles of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace Windu.

Why You Should Have A Bad Feeling About This

  1. Dreadful soundtrack which consists of poor renditions of John Williams’ classic score, which is on par with Fantasia on the Sega Genesis.
  2. Dull and repetitive combat.
  3. Horrendously repetitive levels with most of them being literally a straight line from start to finish, and with absolutely no variation! The background even loops in those levels making it fairly obvious it is in fact looping multiple times.
  4. The levels that actually have platforming require the use of the Force Jump, which uses up your Force power. If you have less Force power than required to use the Force Jump it regenerates slowly making you wait seconds for it to regenerate. Why didn't they just make the Force Jump free to use?
  5. When your Force power is not full the only pickups you get are Force power pickups which restore your Force power. When your Force power is full the only pickups you get are health pickups which means you obviously will not use the Force power unless absolutely necessary so you can get basically infinite health.
  6. Unbelievably broken collision and hit detection. Some of the enemies are so small, they will avoid your attacks, even if your lightsaber touches them. In other cases, when some enemies touch you, you sustain absolutely no damage until a few seconds later. Also when you jump over certain platforms you fall through them unless there is a significant amount of clearance between you and the platform.
  7. Poor driving sections that are either boring or too hard.
  8. Awfully stiff controls. When you block with your lightsaber, you cannot turn to the opposite direction, leaving you exposed to enemy ambushes. You also cannot attack and move at the same time.
  9. Ugly and pixelated graphics, along with extremely blocky 3D models to boot.
  10. Droning sound effects.
  11. Droids sometimes moonwalk because the programmers could not be bothered making them actually turn around and animate them going in the correct direction.
  12. The game does a poor attempt in adapting the film‘s storyline.
  13. The cutscenes and end credits have no soundtrack whatsoever.
  14. The Kamino stage is a humongous maze with dozens of useless dead ends and endlessly respawning enemies.

Reception

Game Informer gave it a 1 out of 10, describing it to be "the Dark Side of gaming". The game has a rating of 2.32 on GameFAQs and a MetaScore of 38 on Metacritic.

Caddicarus added it to his Badvent calendar for the worst games he ever played in 2018.
