Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith is an action game released in 2005 on PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameBoy Advance, and Nintendo DS as a tie-in to the film of the same name.[1]

Why It Has The High Ground

  1. Pretty decent graphics for the time.
  2. A decent combat system with decent gameplay with a great variety of lightsaber moves and Force powers.
  3. An alright plot that complements the film.
  4. Pretty good level design.
  5. The dueling levels are pretty good.
  6. The cutscenes use footage from the film, and even includes small bits of footage that didn't make it in.
  7. An RPG-like system where after each level you can upgrade your abilities with however many points you've gained.
  8. Some pretty good bonuses like concept art, bonus single-player and multiplayer missions, and a dueling arena where you can play as any character you've dueled throughout the game.
  9. There's an alternate version of the final level where you play as Anakin during the duel on Mustafar and get an ending cutscene where he KILLS both Obi-Wan and Palpatine.
  10. There's even a level where you play as Darth Vader and fight Ben on the Death Star!
  11. The handheld version is a pretty decent sidescrolling hack-n-slash.

Bad Qualities

  1. Some enemies are a pain to fight.
  2. It can get pretty difficult and repetitive at times.
  3. Where in the film, Anakin turns to the Dark Side to obtain the power to save Padme. In the console version of the game, Padme is completely absent and seemingly plays no factor in Anakin's fall to the point to where it looks like he turns for no real reason. Possibly, due to Natalie Portman not wanting to be apart of it. In fact, there is ONE piece of dialogue that mentions Padme and it's mentioned during the Mustafar fight by Anakin about how Obi-Wan TURNED HER AGAINST HIM.
  4. The DS version has some awkward starfighter stages.
  5. You can only play as Yoda and the Magnaguard in the bonus missions, and is absent in the dueling arena.
  6. The voice acting while from the original actors, is done worse here.
  7. Some of the cutscenes are ruined due to the added gameplay to the scenes. Notably the scene where Mace Windu tries to kill Papatine, but instead of Anakin slicing Mace Windu's arm off with his lightsaber from the movie, it starts a boss fight with Mace Windu. When Anakin wins the boss fight with Mace Windu, Anakin stabs Mace Windu in the chest with his lightsaber. Completely ruining the original scene from the movie.

Reception

The game received average to positive reviews at the time of release. The console versions were met with a more mixed response with people either liking or disliking it, while the handheld versions were met with more praise. In the years since, it has garnered a decent following and is regarded as one of the better video games to be directly based on a movie.

Trivia

  • There were versions of the game planned for the GameCube and PSP, but these versions were cancelled.
