Stewie Is Enceinte is the twelfth episode of the thirteenth season of the American animated television sitcom Family Guy, and the 243rd episode overall. It aired on Fox in the United States on March 8, 2015.
Plot
Stewie impregnates himself with Brian's DNA, having the belief that a baby will save their relationship. They end up with a litter of dog-human hybrid babies who prove themselves to be challenging to raise due to their birth defects. Meanwhile, Peter and his friends attempt to create the next hit viral video.
Why This Episode is Stillborn
- Absolutely horrible plot: The idea of Stewie, an INFANT, being pregnant with dog-human hybrid babies not only makes no sense whatsoever but is also just downright disturbing. What's most ironic is that he does this in order to reinforce his friendship with Brian so that he doesn't leave him when this only makes Brian want to get away from him as much as possible.
- The idea was also just based off one line in "Christmas Guy", which has been confirmed by the DVD commentary for that episode.
- The scene with Stewie giving birth in the car is one of the most disgusting moments in Family Guy history, but thankfully, it wasn't directly shown.
- What's even worse is that it implies that Stewie gives birth to the hybrids from EVERY ORIFICE of his entire body, which sounds extremely painful and horrifying.
- Hell, even Brian screams because of this.
- What's even worse is that it implies that Stewie gives birth to the hybrids from EVERY ORIFICE of his entire body, which sounds extremely painful and horrifying.
- This is a Brian torture episode since Brian is tortured throughout the entire episode in an instance where he actually didn't do anything to deserve it.
- Stewie is really at his absolute worst in this episode as he keeps mistreating Brian and acting like a real pregnant woman which becomes very annoying. Also, this is really rare to see Stewie either be unlikable or despicable, even during this era where everyone in the show practically lost all forms of likability in them. In fact, this episode takes the flanderization of his character up to eleven.
- It is definitely the "Stimpy's Pregnant" of Family Guy, but not counting Peter's plot.
- It tries to make humor of Brian forcing a miscarriage by punching Stewie and asking Dr. Hartman if there is a lot of stairs in the building.
- There is an unfunny running joke with Stewie looking at baby stuff only for Brian to tell him that he too is a baby.
- Most of Brian and Stewie's hybrid babies look disturbing, like the the brain-damaged Brain-Stewie hybrid for example.
- Sadly, it was the final episode to air on Adult Swim before it was taken off the air, which is a horrible way to end the show's run on a channel that rejuvinated its popularity.
Redeeming Qualities
- The subplot with Peter, Joe, Quagmire, and Cleveland wanting to make a viral video, and a female frog dancing in front of a bunch of monkeys is rather enjoyable, since it is less horrifying than the main plot.
- The "I like dick!" part was pretty funny.
- As mentioned in WTEIS#2, the part where Stewie is giving birth is not directly shown.
- Although the joke was predictable, the scene where Peter does an everyday picture video with the Grudge Kid haunting him in the background while "Hey There Delilah" by Plain White T's plays during the scene is actually pretty funny.
- Brian is surprisingly likable in this episode as he isn’t flanderized like he usually is; he comes off as correct that Stewie's decision is horrible and very sympathetic in this episode due to how horribly he is treated by Stewie.
- While the hybrid babies look disturbing, some of them look cute, like Finn, the baby that actually looks like a dog, and the baby with the head of Stewie.
Reception
The episode generally received negative reviews from fans of Family Guy, mainly due to the idea of Stewie becoming pregnant and also the disgusting hybrids of Stewie's children. It currently sits at a 5.6 rating on IMDb.
Trivia
- As mentioned above, this was the final episode to air on Adult Swim before it was taken off the air due to Disney networks acquiring the broadcast rights to the series.
- The title is a reference to the episode of I Love Lucy titled "Lucy Is Enceinte" in which she revealed she was pregnant. Due to the broadcast standards of the time frowning on the word "pregnant," the Latinized word "enceinte" was used instead in a nod to Ricky Ricardo's heritage.
