"Stuck on Smurfs" is a Season 5 episode from the 1980s Smurfs cartoon show.

Synopsis

Gargamel casts a spell on Clumsy that now everyone who touches him gets stuck on him.

Bad Qualities

  1. As said in the infobox, the plot of this episode is incredibly dumb, as it is about the fact that Clumsy got a spell that if we touch him then the other smurfs get stuck on him, which is possibly one of the worst plot of any episodes, even worse that isn't even the main focus of the episode.
    • In addition, it is the most plotless episode of the whole series along with "Happy Unhappiness Day to You", because they are just stuck on them and that's it, you basically got the whole plot.
  2. The beginning of the episode is already a red flag, as it show some of the Smurfs disturbing Papa's for dumb things when he was taking a bath, those scenes are probably the worst ones of this episode.
    • Even worse, this running gag is used 3 times in only 4 minutes! Which make it extremely annoying and became old very fast, even more than other poor running gags featured in the show.
  3. The plot of Clumsy making the other smurfs stuck does not start until at least 5 minutes, and considering that the episode is only 11 minutes long, then we can easily wonder why does they added so much fillers in this episode.
    • In other words, this episode had so many dull moments and even when Clumsy get stuck on the other smurfs, it is boring and just painful to sit though.
  4. The pacing of this episode is just dreadful, as it is so boring that even "A Mere Truffle" is more exciting to watch than this, in fact this entire episode is so dull that it's even feel like this episode was made in a very lazy way.
  5. Plot Hole: Even though it was Gargamel who did the spell on Clumsy, how does when the smurfs get on him, they are stuck on him too ? Especially that he isn't even a smurf, this was never explained and is probably because of the writting being so poorly done.
  6. Like many bad Smurfs episodes, there's not enough dark elements to make the story interesting, and even if Gargamel does appear, he doesn't try to capture the Smurfs and because of this, the episode is even less interesting.
  7. A ton of errors are seen, most notably when Smurfette was show being stuck with the other smurfs, but when the smurfs get stuck on Gargamel, she is nowhere to be seen, how does she get out of this curse ?
    • Speaking of Smurfette, she had almost nothing to contribute in the plot at all and doesn't appear much, unlike many other episodes.
  8. While the ending is decent due to not being a horrible ending for the smurfs, it feel very rushed and feel like that it was cut just for that the episode end with no explanations.
  9. It's overall a terrible way to start season 5, due to being so boring.

Good Qualities

  1. Most of the characters are likable. And Gargamel was also a likable villain.
  2. At least the episode is only 11 minutes long rather than 22 minutes, which is a good thing this time because of the plot being so bad.
  3. Good animation and voice acting as usual.

Reception

It had a score of 6.5/10 on IMDb.

Trivia

  • In the Marvel Comics' Smurfs story "Sticky Smurf", Gargamel uses a fake Smurf cake made of a sticky substance in order to capture a Smurf, but in the process also gets stuck to the cake along with a cow, two birds, and other things until Papa Smurf made up a formula that unstuck everything from it except for Gargamel, which he had no more formula for. However, Papa Smurf does leave Gargamel the recipe for the formula to free himself.
  • This episode is the first episode aired in Season 5, causing confusion as the Smurflings appear in the episode before their debuts.
  • Many foreign DVD releases carry the syndicated Smurfs Adventures repackaging of this episode, as opposed to the rest of the episodes, which were uncut, although this edition also uses the modified Season 1 intro (with the "Smurfy Way" theme song) and credits for foreign markets.
  • The Smurflings and Baby Smurf (who is not seen in this episode) are the only Smurfs not to get stuck together from the potion.
