Super Mario Party Jamboree is a game in the Mario Party series released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch on October 17, 2024. The game was first announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, 2024. It is the eighteenth installment in the Mario Party series, as well as the third released for the Nintendo Switch.

Why it's a Jamboree

  1. This is a major, massive improvement over Mario Party Superstars.
  2. Unlike Mario Party Superstars, where there weren't really any varied modes, this game offers varied modes that are just as fun, including Paratroopa Flight School, Toad's Item Factory, or Rythm Kitchen.
    1. Rythm Kitchen is somewhat an Easter Egg to Super Mario Party's Sound Stage, and plays similar to this.
  3. Bowser's Challenges are also fun to play, and features the Koopathlon Mode (as a callback to the Coinathlon from Mario Party: Star Rush), and Bowser Kaboom Squad, where eight players has to defeat the Bowser Impostor before the time runs out.
  4. The Single-Player STory Mode is finally back after being missing from previous entries. Even Boss Battles are back since Mario Party: Star Rush.
  5. Like Mario Party Superstars, this game has the charm of the old Mario Party games.
  6. The game features the largest number of playable characters yet, with twenty-two playable characters.
    1. Speaking of characters, Ninji and Pauline makes their debuts in the franchise as newcommers.
    2. Almost every characters from Super Mario Party are back, even Bowser.
    3. After being unacceptably reduced to the role of undeserved NPCs, Toad and Toadette have finally become playable characters again. Not only did it make fans happy, but it's also great to find them playable since Mario Party: Star Rush.
  7. There is a total of one hundred and twelve minigames, which make it one of, if not the biggest Mario Party game ever made, even better, those are very fun to play as usual.
    1. Some of the minigames are taken directly from the previous Hudson Soft Era games, as a callback to those games.
  8. Showdown Minigames are really cool to play, and some of them involves a reference to a specific character.
    • Mario's Showdown Minigame, "Mario's Three-peat", combine three classic-era minigames, being Leaf Leap, from Mario Party 5, Bumper Balls, from the first two Mario Party games, and Shy Guy Says, also from the first two Mario Party Games, with the Mario Party 2 version of this game being inclued.
    • Luigi's Showdown Minigame, "Luigi Rescue Operation", is like a callback to the Luigi's Mansion series.
    • Wario's showdown minigame, "Wario's Buzzer Beater", plays in a similar manner to WarioWare.
    • Waluigi's Showdown Minigame, "Waluigi's Pinball Arcade", is a shot of nostalgia at Mario Kart DS fan favorite track, Waluigi Pinball, with is appearance being those from Mario Kart Tour and 8 Deluxe respectively.
    • Rosalina's Showdown Minigame, Rosalina's Radical Race, resembles those from Mario Kart, but more of snowboarding than go-kart racing, and its appearance takes place in 3DS Rosalina Ice World.
    • Donkey Kong's Showdown Minigame, DK's Konga Line, is a callback to the Donkey Konga series.
  9. Survivathon Minigames involves twenty players to plays and survive as long as possible against the Bowser Impostor.
  10. Very good voice acting, as usual, especially for Kevin Afghani, who gave an incredible performance by doing not only Mario, but also Luigi, Wario, and even for the very first time, Waluigi.
  11. There are seven boards, three of which are unlockable. They are all as varied as each other.
    1. Heck, Mario's Rainbow Castle and Western Land returns from Mario Party and Mario Party 2, respectively.
  12. With all this, it is clear to say that after the disappointments received in Mario Party Superstars (despite being a great game), the Mario Party series is completely saved.

Bad Qualities

  1. Still no color coded items for each character.
  2. Diddy Kong, Hammer Bro., Dry Bones and Pom Pom are not playable in the game, unlike Super Mario Party.
  3. Missed Opportunities:
    • Several old mini-games from previous Mario Party titles would have been added to make Jamboree more forgiving, such as Curtain Call, Control Shtick, Murky Maze, Easy Pickings, Spinner Cell, Sugar Rush, Mario Can-Can, Makin' Waves, Totem Pole Pound, Hyper Hydrants, Warp Pipe Dreams, Garden Grab, and Paintball Battle.
    • Chilly Waters, Toad's Midway Madness, Undersea Dream, and Neon Heights would have been added in Jamboree too, not just Mario's Rainbow Castle and Western Land.
    • Another questionable thing is that not all characters have their Showdown mini-game.
    • It would have been better if the player character faced the Bosses alone.

Receptions

Super Mario Party Jamboree has recieved generally favorable critics, with a score of 82 of 100, based on 93 Critic Reviews, as well as a user score of 9.9, based on 216 User Ratings, being the highest rated Mario Party game ever.
