Gameplay

In the game, Mario is constantly moving to the right and the player can make him jump by tapping the screen. The game features four modes: World Tour, the main game mode where players go through 6 different worlds to rescue Princess Peach; Kingdom Builder, where players can customize their own kingdom with different objects; Toad Rally, a battle mode where players can race against another player's time; and Remix 10, where the player has to play through a series of 10 short courses multiple times as part of a quest to rescue Princess Daisy. Nintendo markets the game as the first Super Mario title that can be played with one hand. This game was developed with the Unity game engine. It is the second mobile application developed and published by Nintendo (following Miitomo), and the first of three Mario mobile game.

Why It's On The Run

  1. A 2D Mario auto-runner is a great concept.
  2. The game feels charming and has a lot of personalty similarly to previous titles.
  3. Mario's jumping feels natural, like in previous titles.
  4. Many Character to choose from (other than Mario, Luigi, Yellow and Blue Toad) like Peach, Yoshi, Toad, Toadette and (her first playable appearance in a 2D Mario game) Daisy.
  5. The Characters have their own abilities (Daisy can do a double jump for example).
  6. Remix 10 is a fast-paced minigame with 10 short levels that makes you feel like you are playing microgames from WarioWare games.
  7. The 5 Pink, Purple and Black coins give the game a bit of replay value.
  8. In Campaign mode: There are 24 courses form the main game, plus 9 level from the star world, with 5 Pink, Purple, and Green coins scattered across levels, and enemies and collectables being rearranged in place making the levels vastly unique throughout different play-through.
  9. Toad Rally is a game mode where you play against ghost of others players racing through an infinite and randomly genrated courses. The main goal is to make a higher score than your opponent, do moves to impress Toads, such as Jumping on enemies, pulling off cool vault grabbing and collecting Tons of coins.
    • There's no lag problems because you are racing against a ghost.
  10. Great Music remixes from past games such as Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario All-Star, and the New Super Mario Bros series.
  11. Coins are useful, because you can buy decorations for your Kingdom.
  12. The game introduces new enemies such as Poison Bubbles, Big Goombrats, Spike Bars.

Bad Qualities

  1. To get the full game, you need to pay $10 for every other level in the campaign other than the first world, which can be a big turnoff for some people.
  2. It relies on a constant internet connection to play this game, meaning that if it were to ever shut down (like Dr. Mario World), this game would be lost to time, and those who spent the money to buy the full game will have otherwise wasted it.
  3. It can get frustrating at times.
    • For Example: In order to get back Peach's Tent you will need 50000 Toads to unlock it which takes a long time.

Trivia

  • The game had a first look in an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon which featured then president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aimé.
