"Sven Höek" (stylized "Svën Höek") is the sixth episode of the second season of The Ren & Stimpy Show.
Plot
Ren's cousin Sven visits, but he turns out to be just as stupid as Stimpy. The two bond over disgusting personal possessions, and Ren is horrified by the fact that they are wearing inflated rubber gloves on their heads (Stimpy claims that they are "Lodge Brothers" of the "Loyal Order of Stupids"). Much later, poor, exhausted Ren is going out to work, although it is not explicitly stated what his job is, and the two are left in the house together, with Ren telling them to behave. After Ren comes home from work, he finds the house in shambles, with the majority of the living room being covered in cat litter. Ren shrugs it off, being relieved to be home, however, he sees that both Sven and Stimpy violated his material possessions, including putting bubble gum on his opera records, opening his collection of deadly/incurable diseases and painting his fossilized dinosaur droppings as if they are Easter Eggs. Ren angrily confronts the two in what seems to be one of his highest peaks of anger and threatenly tells them he is going to tear their lips off, gouge their eyes out, tear their arms out of their sockets, and hit them then laugh over them shortly after, in a very eerily calm voice. Before he can act on his threats however, he decides to go to the bathroom, demanding them to stay right where they are. He comes across a boardgame Stimpy and Sven were playing, called "Don't Whiz on the Electric Fence" realizing they like the game, Ren precedes to urinate on it, while laughing maniacally only to end up electrocuted, causing the house to explode. The episode ends with the three being transported to hell where Satan asks Ren, "So, you whizzed on the electric fence, didn't ya?" and they are all engulfed by flames as the jingle plays.
Why It Rocks
- Good animation and voice acting. Billy West did a good job voicing Sven.
- Ren's European cousin, Sven is very funny and has its funny moments in this episode.
- There's some hilarious moments in this episode, like Stimpy ends up getting kicked in the head by a horse and Stimpy and Sven with rubber glove balloons over their heads, with Stimpy saying they are part of the Loyal Order of Stupids.
- Ren's threatening speech when he threats Stimpy and Sven for having destroyed his valuable possessions: I'm so ANGRY! First... I'm gonna tear your lips out. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. And then... I'm gonna... GOUGE your eyes out! Yeah! That's what I'm gonna do! Yeah, you're scared, huh? Next... I'm gonna... TEAR your arms out of the sockets! And you wanna know what else? I'm gonna hit ya, and you're gonna fall... And I'm gonna look down and I'm gonna laugh.
- But first... I've gotta take a whiz!.
Bad Qualities
- The controversial threatening scene that was cut from the TV airings, but also caused the episode to be banned since the early 2010s.
- This is the most censored series' episode, with the biggest censorship being the scene when Ren threats Stimpy and Sven. To make things worse, this episode was banned on television since the early 2010s, since then did not air on MTV and NickRewind (despite scenes of the episode were shown in the block's promos) and wasn't included on Amazon, Hulu and neither on Paramount+, mainly due of the threatening scene, making the only ways to watch the episode it's only on websites (more precisely on illegal websites) and on 2004 Seasons 1-2 DVD.
- The ending is very downing, since Ren (being extremely unlikable for the most part), Stimpy, and Sven go to hell, due to peeing in the Electric Fence game, which caused Ren and Stimpy's house exploding and going to hell as a result.
- 'The title card (the person playing an accordion) has nothing to do with the plot whatsoever.
Reception
It holds a rating of 9/10 on IMDB.
Trivia
- John K. hated the opening title sequence. The use of a live-action accordion player had nothing to do with what John K. thought his cartoon series was about. The original version was supposed to have a different title card with Alfred Hitchcock music, but, due to the Spümcø version wasn't completed and Games Animation supposedly destroyed the original Spümcø version, the live-action title sequence was made instead.
- The accordion player in the episode's opening is played by Bob Camp.
- This is the last episode to use the Farewell Segment, and the first one to use digital ink and paint animation instead of traditional cel.
