"Swallower (Popee the Performer)"
Don't wanna get Nightmares when watching this, Good Luck!
Series: Popee the Performer
Part of Season: 1
Episode Number: 11
Previous episode: Gunman
Next episode: Escape Show

“Swallower” is the 11th episode of the 1st season of Popee the Performer.

Plot

Popee demonstrates his talent for sword swallowing and becomes over-zealous, resulting in disaster.

Why It Intentionally Got Swallowed

This is the face Popee makes after he got injured, as mentioned in WIIGS#1.

NOTE: As to be expected from the show, this episode was obviously meant to suck on purpose.

  1. To get the elephant out of the room: The infamous face Popee makes after getting injured, and it is SURE to give people the chills, or to a lesser extent, nightmares.
  2. Kedamono is awfully out of character and unlikable as he starts laughing after seeing Popee injured.
  3. Popee is at his absolute worst as once he gets the sword out of his body, he starts chasing Kedamono, attempting to kill him. He even eats Kedamono alive!
    • However, the sword chase is understandable since Kedamono dragged him on the ground.
  4. Terrible animation as usual.
  5. The bad ending where Popee swallows a large sword to kill Kedamono, and ends up getting pinned again.
  6. There’s a sad version of the Popee the Performer theme song playing throughout the entire episode, despite the episode itself not being very sad. Sure, the ending can be considered sad, but the music is still unnecessary.
    • It should be noted that they didn't bother playing the Popee the Performer theme song, which is what they use in major episodes whenever something bad or out of context happens onscreen. Here with "Swallower", it's nonexistent.
  7. The episode can be considered not just the darkest and worst episode of the series, but also for the amount of blood, graphic violence, and character death at the end. The episode ended up getting banned from KIDS STATION due to the episode being too violent for children. (SEE MORE AT TRIVIA #1)

Intentional Redeeming Qualities

  1. Like your average Popee episode, this is supposed to be a bad episode. Also like the show itself, it's supposed to act like a bad show. It's so weird, so edgy, and so bad, it's clearly a good episode.
  2. The sword chase scene is at least understandable as Kedamono dragged Popee on the ground.
  3. Decent soundtrack as usual.
  4. The pacing is still good.
  5. Even if this episode is atrocious, the anime in general is still great compared to another awful CGI anime.

Reception

It is currently left unrated on IMDb.

Trivia

  • This episode was taken off the air due to the disturbing content shown throughout the episode.
  • This is one of only two episodes to have voice cues, the other being "FACE".
  • Contrary to most of the other episodes, this episode has only one music track playing throughout: An orchestra version of the theme song.
