TTG v PPG is the 40th episode of the 3rd season of Teen Titans Go! and their second crossover, being a crossover with The Powerpuff Girls.
Synopsis
The Powerpuff Girls follow Mojo Jojo to the Teen Titans' home in Jump City, where he plans to take over the world with an army of monkeys. Beast Boy and Cyborg think Mojo is "pretty cool for a talking monkey," and the girls compete against Robin, Starfire, and Raven to see which is the best superhero team.
Why It's No Battle
- The idea of making a crossover episode between Teen Titans Go! and the 2016 versions of The Powerpuff Girls is a horrible idea, especially from the start, because keep in mind, both shows were already critically and negatively panned for a terrible amount of reasons, mostly because they are both very unfaithful to the source material, they are both Cartoon Network superhero shows that focus more on slice-of-life and comedy rather than actual crime-fighting and action, and they both have no involvement with their creators
- False advertising:
- The episode title is misleading as neither the Teen Titans nor even the Powerpuff Girls engage in an actual fight, but rather a dispute of which superhero team is better.
- In the poster of Max of Latin America, it shows Beast Boy and Cyborg are here to go fight with the Powerpuff Girls, but they aren't here and helped the Mojo.
- While Cyborg and Beast Boy are tolerable in this episode, they are also stupid as they encounter Mojo Jojo in their tower and instantly agree to help him with his plan to create a monkey army (even when Mojo said he was a supervillain) because they like magic monkeys.
- When Mojo finally has enough time to build a giant PPG repellent, Beast Boy and Cyborg finally realize that Mojo is the bad guy but do nothing other than get shocked by the realization.
- Robin, Starfire, and Raven are extremely disrespectful and rude towards the Powerpuff Girls who mock them for being younger than them and continue to be nothing but useless jerks throughout the whole episode.
- Robin, Starfire, and Raven even have a competition against the girls without even caring that Beast Boy and Cyborg are probably in the clutches of Mojo Jojo (who is still trying to take over the world) to prove that they're better than them.
- When the Powerpuff Girls win their competition, Robin, Starfire, and Raven hypocritically mock them again.
- Bad ending: When the girls defeat Mojo Jojo, they thank Robin, Starfire, and Raven, for their "help," but Robin, Starfire, and Raven, in return, laugh in their faces and continue mocking them instead of saying "you're welcome."
Redeeming Qualities
- The Powerpuff Girls characters are surprisingly very likable in this episode and even retain their original personalities. The narrator even had a much bigger role here than in the reboot itself.
- Despite their stupidity in this episode, Beast Boy and Cyborg are way more tolerable than Robin, Starfire, and Raven as they don't hypocritically mock The Powerpuff Girls as mentioned above.
- The Powerpuff Girls and the Narrator criticizing Robin, Starfire, and Raven for their behavior is very satisfying.
- "Magic Monkey!"
- The Monkey Army song is pretty catchy.
Reception
This episode received a mixed-to-negative reception from fans and critics. It currently holds a 5.7/10 on IMDb.
The MysteriousMrEnter, though put this episode as his 50th Admirable Animations Video, and as said in one of the comments in that video, PhantomStrider agreed with him.
Trivia
- This is the first Teen Titans Go! episode to have a crossover with another show.
