Talia in the Kitchen is an American telenovela-formatted teen sitcom that premiered on Nickelodeon on July 6, 2015. It was an adaptation of the Nickelodeon Latin American telenovela, Toni, la Chef, and was created by Mariela Romero & Catharina Ledeboer, the same writers who made Every Witch Way & WITS Academy.

On March 4, 2015, Nickelodeon ordered 40 episodes for the series, all the episodes making up the first season. The season premiered on July 6, 2015, and continued on November 30, 2015. Before the next set of episodes, a sneak peek of the set aired on November 25, 2015. A majority of the episodes aired in July and December 2015. Very few episodes were shown in between those months. On January 12, 2016, it was confirmed that the show was canceled.

Plot

14-year-old Talia Parra has her passion for cooking take flight when she and her younger sister visit their grandmother in Miami for the summer and later move in with her. With help from her new friends and her late father's magical spices, Talia revives business in her family restaurant by cooking truly life-changing meals that are just what each customer needs.

Why It's Not Gonna Get It's Cook On At LOLA'S

1. Out of all the sitcoms Nick made, this is the most unnecessary. As it does absolutely nothing that hasn't been done before by other, often better, Nick sitcoms. Except for possibly having even worse acting and dialogue than most of them (which is saying so much), but that's still not a good achievement in the slightest.
2. It is the most uninteresting sitcom Nick made. It is yet another cheesy telenovela with romance drama, but with a cooking gimmick.
3. The concept of the show is very interesting, but it was wasted on bad writing and awful acting.
4. The logo is extremely mediocre.
5. It feel more like a YouTube cooking tutorial.
6. The trailers for the show were bland and would most likely not get you interested in the show.
7. The characters are incredibly unlikable and cliche. The ones with interesting concepts are also very boring.
   • Talia, who is arguably the most unfunny and annoying character on the show.
   • Debbie is a pathetic and boring rival to Talia.
   • Julie, who is more mature than Talia and smart.
   • Rudy, Talia's best friend and kinda crush who can fix anything.
   • Vallerie, Talia's other best friend is kind hearted and scared of committing crimes.
8. The jokes and writing are terrible and poorly paced.
9. The pacing of the show is pretty bad.
10. Laughably bad dialogue, such as Talia's infamous signature line "I'm gonna go get my cook on at LOLA'S".
11. It had a crossover episode with Every Witch Way, another bad show Nickelodeon made. And, as to be expected, it was horrible, with no improvements of either show.
12. The show is so agonizingly happy all the time, it gets annoying and tiring.
    • Because of this, it always portrays teenage life as the most happiest and wonderful age of your life, when in reality teenagers are often struggling to find their voice, deciding their identity, wanting to see life go well but messing up, etc. That's most other Nickcoms (especially Dan Schiender ones).
13. The acting is insufferable and feels like the actors were told to just do whatever they wanted. Heck, the actors themselves look extremely bored.
14. It killed the reputation of Grachi and its franchise due to its extremely negative reception ruining the latter's reputation.
    • In addition to that, it also feels like a huge jab to the show.
15. It tries to promote girl power but fails miserably due to the characters being near impossible to relate to or root for.
16. The characters are supposed to be teenagers, but they look like they're in their early adulthoods.
17. The effects are incredibly poor, especially for the spice.
18. The camerawork is so bad, it feels like it was literally done by monkeys (to quote PhantomStrider).
19. "And Spice Makes Nice" was a poor way to begin the series as a whole.
20. The 2 part series finale, "Spice Island", ended the show on a somewhat poor note. And whilst probably not intended to be a finale, it would have still ended the first season very badly.
21. It is probably one of the most forgetful and uninteresting Nickcoms ever made, basically suming up how sour they've been since 2011.

Redeeming Qualities

1. There is no laugh track, which is a relief considering that most Nickcoms blast those a lot.
2. It was a starting point for Maria Quezada who was starting since she'd been in minor roles.

Reception

Talia in The Kitchen was universally panned by critics, audiences, and fans of Grachi alike. It is considered to be even worse than even other Nickcoms such as Every Witch Way, WITS Academy, Awesomeness TV, and Nick Studio 10, who aired around the same time. It received a 3.4/10 on IMDb and is considered to be one of the worst Nickcoms made. Due to its poor reception, it ended up being announced canceled in 2016.
