Terminator: Resistance is a first-person shooter game developed by Teyon and published by Reef Entertainment. It was released in Australia and Europe on November 15, 2019, with a North American release on January 7, 2020. It is canonically set during the Judgment Day scenarios set by the 1st two Terminator movies.

Good Qualities

  1. The game is extremely faithful to the Judgment Day scenarios set by the first 2 movies and has lots of details that are faithfully recreated from them too. This shows that Teyon are not only fans of the franchise but also painstakingly did their research when making the game.
    • Also, this is an huge improvement to the Rambo: The Video Game since it changed for the gameplay, from on rail-shooter to first-person shooter.
  2. John Connor, the franchise's iconic tritagonist, serves as a very crucial NPC and helps your character, Resistance member-turned-sergeant Jacob Rivers, take down Skynet and destroy its time machine.
  3. It's fun to explore around the semi-open world to find secrets linking to the franchise's convoluted lore and materials needed to craft weapons and tools.
  4. The lockpicking minigames are good and easy to master, employing the same system used in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the newer Fallout games.
  5. The hacking minigames are fun to play and can be easily used to deactivate spotter drones if you're doing a stealth playthrough of the game.
  6. The voice acting in the game is decent and passable.
  7. Some memorable characters that are crucial to the game's story and in helping you to craft new weapons
  8. Los Angeles is dark and dreary just like how it was portrayed post-Judgment Day in the movies.
  9. A wide range of weapons and ammo can be crafted and used for battle.
  10. The enemies look truly terrifying and accurate to their depictions in the movies, notably the T-800s.
  11. The sound effects are good and sound like most of the weapons from the movies.
  12. Nice soundtrack comprising of music from the movies and original scores
  13. The game can easily satisfy fans of the Terminator franchise who are unhappy about the sequels released between Terminator 2: Judgment Day and Terminator: Dark Fate, with lots of references to the first 2 movies.
  14. The game is decently priced at US$40.

Bad Qualities

  1. Some of the voice acting can be bland at times.
  2. At higher difficulties, weapons, materials and health kits are too easy to obtain, just like The Culling 2.
  3. The graphics are a bit bland and parts of Los Angeles are so dark that it's hard to see where you're going or where some items are unless you play it on the highest brightness.
  4. It's quite short, being easily completed in 8 hours.
  5. The game has a few pacing issues, as it's slow-paced in the first 2 hours before the true action kicks in.
  6. You can only change the game's FOV manually in its game files, but only on the PC version.
  7. Sarah Connor, the Arnold Schwarzenegger model of the T-800, Kyle Reese and the T-1000 did not appear in the game. (Partly justified for Sarah since she died long before the events of the game).
  8. Terrible release date timing: It came out at the same time as Pokémon Sword and Shield and thus was unable to get any attention because most potential players chose to play Pokémon Sword and Shield instead.
    • Also hurting a lot the game's reputation is the fact that it was released 2 weeks after Terminator: Dark Fate, which is a critically successful but commercially unsuccessful entry to the Terminator franchise
  9. The sex scenes were heavily censored by Sony and Microsoft in order for a release on their consoles, which unfortunately caused the PC version to be censored as well. Thankfully, there's a fan-made patch for the PC that restores the uncensored version.

Reception

Terminator Resistance received "mixed or average reviews" from critics, with the game having a critic score of 57/100, but "Generally favourable reviews" from the audience, with an audience score of 8.0/10.[1] Critics openly criticize the game's bad graphics and gunplay whereas fans praised its faithfulness to the franchise and its lore and gameplay while criticizing its short length and gunplay.
