The Adventures of Hutch the Honeybee (昆虫物語 みなしごハッチ, Konchū Monogatari: Minashigo Hatchi, lit. A Bug's Tale: Hutch the Orphan) is an anime series produced by Tatsunoko Production. The series features the adventures of a young bee named Hutch.
Summary
Son of a Queen bee, Hutch is separated from his mother when his native beehive is destroyed by an attack of wasps. The series follows Hutch as he searches for his missing mother, amid a frequently hostile nature.
Why It Will Found Your Queen/Mother
- For starters, the concept of anime drama with an insect theme is interesting.
- The story, while the beginning is dark, gets the job done to balance the tone of the story, but still dark.
- For the episode, each episode is different from what Hutchi accomplished, they halt from finding her mom, and help the bugs from either bigger animals or humans or enemy insects. At the end of the episode, the insects are either keeping them alive and rescuing them or letting him die, it's up to Hutchi himself.
- The animation and designs are really good, as expected for Tatsunoko Productions in the 70s, even some designs can be weird-looking and creepy.
- The soundtrack is really good, and even the opening and ending are very memorable, with most noticeable of this song is the ending song, where the singer sings "Mama", the kids and even adults are crying about your mom, showing how love to mother.
- There are a ton of sad moments, such as:
- In one episode, the humans are catching the insects just for collection, and it's very cruel, seeing more bugs trapped in the collection, Hutchi wants to free the bugs, until the humans use the bug spray to kill the Hutchi. Sadly, one of the insects died because of the humans.
- The ending, while sad because the queen died due to a wasp attack, is great and depressing.
- It has a sequel, which will take place after the first show.
- The voice actor is really good.
Bad Qualities
- While most episodes are good, some episodes are mean-spirited.
- The show is really dark, even for kids can be frightened in several scenes. Luckily, there's some episodes can be enjoyable that not being too dark in term of story for kids viewers.
- Some character can be unlikable due to personality, such as one of the insects is very arrogant.
- While the animation and designs is really good, some of them designs can be weird-looking and sometimes downright creepy.
- The English dub is almost lost media.
Trivia
- The show is infamous for being the most violent and sadistic in kids' anime shows, due to the constant torturing and attacking of the bugs and showing the insects dead. As such results, the show is censored in most countries and some episodes are either skipped or stopped due to this reason.
