"The Best Burger in the World" is the 21st episode in Season 3 (and 61st episode overall) of Regular Show. It first aired on April 9, 2012.

Plot

Mordecai and Rigby try using holograms so they can fool Benson and eat the world's best burgers.

Why It's a Chump

  1. It's a slight torture episode for both Mordecai and Rigby.
  2. Benson is at his absolute worst in this episode. He won't let Mordecai and Rigby have burgers until they finished their work, which he says that they missed a whole week off. Also, the way Benson is enforcing Mordecai and Rigby's punishment gets rather unsettling as the episode goes on. Near the end of the episode, Benson yells at Mordecai and Rigby for just having a simple chat with their friends. Then when they arrive at Skip's garage, he just pushes Mordecai and Rigby off the cart and laughs evilly at the load of things that Mordecai and Rigby have to clear out. Not to mention, he is much meaner and strict to Mordecai and Rigby than usual.
    • The reasoning is also questionable as mentioned, Benson states that Mordecai and Rigby missed a whole week of chores. Benson's job as a park manager is to make sure that employees did their work. So why did Benson wait till now to inform Mordecai and Rigby that they're missing work; shouldn't he have told them immediately if they missed a single chore or did Benson forgot about it?
  3. This culminates in a cringe-worthy scene where instead of just simply taking away Mordecai and Rigby's burgers until they have done their work, Benson rather steals and eats Mordecai and Rigby's burgers that they were waiting to eat. Adding insult to injury, he even mocks how it will take Mordecai and Rigby a century to clean out Skips' garage.
    • Benson doesn't face any repercussions for stealing and eating Mordecai and Rigby's burgers, making him a Karma Houdini. Even though Benson should be seen and scolded by the people serving the burgers, they have a policy of one burger per person.
  4. No matter how tasty a burger is, it has no reason to be served only once every century (100 years). It's just not practical, not even by the show's logic, let alone a cartoon.
  5. Skips, Pops, Muscle Man, and High-Five Ghost do nothing in this episode but serve as filler, and they don't even call Benson out for his conduct.
  6. This episode is very mean-spirited since Benson won't let Mordecai and Rigby get their burgers until they finish their work chores and Benson always attempts to catch Mordecai and Rigby when they're trying to get their burger.
  7. Terrible ending: Mordecai and Rigby missed the chance to eat the Ulti-meatum since Benson ate their two burgers, and the truck blew up.

Qualities That Aren't Chumps

  1. The Ulti-meatum, while overstuffed, admittedly looks pretty appetizing and comparable to the real-world Western Bacon Cheeseburgers sold by the fast-food chain Carl's Jr., known as Hardee's in Eastern states.
  2. Benson does get his comeuppance in "Sandwich of Death" where he eats Rigby and Mordecai's death sandwich and gets infected after not eating the sandwich correctly.
    • Also, "Operation: Hear No Evil" from Season 8 is essentially this episode done right.
  3. Mordecai and Rigby are likable and as usual and as they are incredibly tolerable in this episode, Will always feel sorry for them in this horrible ending.
  4. The animation and voice acting are still good.
    • There are also funny one-liners, especially "NOOOOOOOOOO! We just wanted a burger!"
    • "Anyone who doesn't eat one... IS A CHUMP!"
  5. The fight scene between Mordecai and Rigby and the holograms over the burger was entertaining.
  6. To be fair, Benson only acted like this just for the sake of the plot.

Reception

"The Best Burger in the World" was panned by critics and fans, who have considered it to be one of the worst if not the worst episode of the entire series. Some fans have pointed out that this episode was the start of Benson's on and off flanderization, which he would not fully recover from until Season 7. It is also one of the lowest-rated episodes of the series on IMDB as it has a 7.4 rating there.
