The Big Cheese is the third part of the ninth episode in the first season of Dexter's Laboratory

Plot

Dexter is in his lab working on an experiment and neglects to study for his French test. To mitigate this, he uses an invention that allows him to learn French as he sleeps. The record, however, repeats the phrase "omelette du fromage" over and over, making it the only thing Dexter can say. Due to this, Dexter briefly becomes a celebrity.

Why It Deserves Cheese Omelets

  1. The start was very nice, with Dexter doing the tasks on his to-do-list in his laboratory.
  2. The invention Dexter uses to study for his French test while sleeping looks pretty cool and impressive.
  3. Speaking of which, the person that narrates the learning French CD has a smooth voice and does a great job teaching to the point where Dexter could only say "omelette du fromage" (French for "cheese omelette").
  4. Dexter only saying said two words does great things for him, with himself passing his French test, being right in maths when saying that the cars will collide in the French city of omelette du fromage, making the girls fall in love and calming down the bullies, and even becoming famous after answering the same question in a quiz show.
  5. Watching the montage of Dexter becoming rich was also nice and amazing.
  6. "Omelette du Fromage"

Bad Qualities

  1. The cheese omelette translation is actually incorrect here, as it's actually "omelette au fromage" instead of "dú".
  2. Most episodes show that Dexter can open the lab by inserting the book in the bookcase, here Dexter can open the lab by saying "Star Wars" as the password, which is strange.
  3. Sadly, Dexter's Mom and Dad do not serve a purpose in this episode.
    • Dexter's Mom only appears in 2 scenes, where she calls Dexter and Dee Dee to go to sleep and the other scene where she makes breakfast. Dad, on the other hand, only sees him in the rear while he and his wife are watching TV.
  4. Dee Dee is horribly unlikable for constantly making fun of Dexter just for saying one word, but thankfully she only appears briefly at the start & end.
  5. Bad Ending: Although Dexter becomes rich and famous, he doesn't get access to his laboratory due to him only saying "omelette du fromage", and it ends with his lab exploding to pieces and Dee Dee saying that it's all Dexter can say.

Trivia

  • Omelette du fromage is the French word of Cheese Omelet.
  • This episode may be inspired by Steve Martin's stand-up routine about speaking French
  • The password Dexter speaks at the start, "Star Wars" is a reference to the well-known science fiction movie series.
  • The iconic quote became a definition in the dictionary in December 2009, as well as an Internet meme.

Reception

It holds a rating of 7.8/10 on IMDB.
