"The Bold and the Booty-ful" is the 12th episode of Total Drama All-Stars.
Plot
The final four compete in the final immunity challenge. Zoey discovers the evidence left by Alejandro that exposes Mal's true nature. Meanwhile, the malevolent competitor ends up trapping Gwen in a pile of junk before sabotaging Scott's chance of winning against his old foe, Fang. In the end, Gwen is automatically eliminated due to angering the host, Chris McLean, and Scott is eliminated by the winner Zoey's sole vote to try and save her significant other, also giving her a final warning for who she's up against, thus allowing two contestants to move on to the finale.
Why It Isn't Bold Nor "Booty-ful"
- This episode has a lot of unfunny toilet humor.
- Right from the start, we are forced to see the Sasquatchanakwa taking a dump on the Flush of Shame. You know, this season's method of eliminating the contestants! Chris reminds him about it, but he just shrugs it off. Worse, he was about to do it in the following episode, but Wawanakwa's sink down prevented him from doing so.
- Zoey telling Chris about his explosive bathroom emergency.
- Later in the episode, Gwen came across a bear finishing its business in the bushes and decides to use its dung to fix the portrait of Chris she accidentally smeared.
- Zoey's line: "Eww, egg butt!".
- Mike's alternate personalities (Chester, Svetlana, Vito, and Manitoba Smith) are uncharacteristically harsh to him, especially Manitoba Smith, who is burning Mike's dreams under Mal's wishes all because when Mike defeats Mal, "he will get to be the main alter again, and they won't".
- After 12 episodes and warnings from Alejandro and Duncan, Zoey only now figures out that Mal has taken over her boyfriend's body.
- The challenge is unfair as there would be no way for Scott to be able to remove the diamond from Fang's mouth. Gwen has a hard time finding her item amongst the various objects from Chris' now-destroyed "cottage" after it got blown up by Duncan in "You Regatta Be Kidding Me". Zoey gets her item a bit too easily, and Mal doesn't even bother to do his part.
- Gwen's elimination makes no sense. Unlike Mal and Scott, she actually brought back an item intact just like Chris ordered. He disqualifies her from the game all simply because she "ruined his painting" with bear feces.
- If the writers hadn't forgotten Gwen's artistic side from Island, she would've known better than to use bear dung on the painting.
- Mal is at his worst here. Instead of actually completing his part of the challenge (which was to bring back the original Gilded Chris Award), he instead decides to sabotage Gwen and Scott. He was only let slide by Chris because he brought an injured contestant (Scott), which wins the sadistic host over.
- A Gilded Chris is shown in the spa hotel in the previous episode, yet he doesn't even go there to retrieve it.
- Need we mention he was about to knock Gwen out unconscious and then dropped part of the wall onto Gwen? Not only was she forced to face her fear for the second time this season, but he was also lucky it didn't kill her. It's saying that Chris of all people even found his actions creepy!
- Scott, while likable, is even dumber than usual. He fell for the trap he set up for Fang last season and believes in everything Mal says.
- Gwen ends her time on the show without resolving things with Courtney.
- Scott is eliminated by Zoey just so that she and her boyfriend are the final two as she promised to have a "friendship finale". Really, Zoey?
- There is no sense of tension as the double eliminations here are way too predictable.
- Gwen and Scott are further tortured in the exclusive clip when they fell off the Niagara Falls.
Bold and Booty-ful Qualities
- The animation and voice acting are still great as usual.
- Gwen and Scott are the only tolerable characters in this episode.
Trivia
General
- The "pirate booty" assigned to the contestants and their locations are:
- Gwen: An intact portrait of Chris from the wreckage of his cottage.
- Mike/Mal: The original Gilded Chris Award, located anywhere around the island.
- A Gilded Chris is shown in the spa hotel in the previous episode. As Mal decided to sabotage the others instead of search for it, it is unknown if this is the one Chris was talking about.
- Scott: A diamond from the pirate ship set previously seen in "Mutiny on the Soundstage," guarded by Fang.
- Zoey: Sasquatchanakwa, located anywhere around the island.
- The traps inside the chests that activate when the contestants open them are:
- Zoey's chest contains an electric shock.
- Scott's chest contains a boxing glove that hits him in the face, with the clue stuck on it.
- Gwen's chest throws pepper to the one who opens it.
- Mike/Mal's chest contains a snapping turtle who bites his hand.
- With Gwen's elimination, all first-generation cast members have been eliminated. Additionally, with her and Scott's eliminations, all members of the Villainous Vultures have been eliminated, giving the show the first same team final two since Gwen and Owen in Total Drama Island.
- With Manitoba Smith's appearance, the order that Mike discovers his personalities within his subconscious is the same order in which they debuted: first Chester, then Svetlana, then Vito, and finally Manitoba.
- With Gwen and Scott eliminated, Total Drama Island is the only season that didn't feature a double elimination.
- Mal is the only contestant to not find his treasure.
- The Chef bobble head from Total Drama World Tour is seen on the mantle where the portrait of Chris is hanging in a bathroom.
- Not counting Scott’s mention of Courtney, this is the only episode of the season where she doesn’t make a physical appearance.
Continuity
- This is the seventh double elimination of the series thus far. This is the second one where the double elimination is intended from the beginning and didn't occur due to some special/unexpected events. The others are:
- Total Drama Action:
- "Alien Resurr-eggtion" (intended): Bridgette and Geoff.
- "Top Dog": Courtney and Owen.
- This marked the second time there is a double elimination before the final two is formed. Oddly enough, both of these feature a season antagonist and previous finalist.
- Total Drama World Tour:
- "Jamaica Me Sweat": Izzy (medically evacuated) and DJ.
- "Chinese Fake-Out": Blaineley and Courtney.
- "Hawaiian Punch": Cody and Alejandro/Heather.
- Total Drama: Revenge of the Island:
- "A Mine Is a Terrible Thing to Waste": Brick and Anne Maria.
- Total Drama: Pahkitew Island:
- "Scarlett Fever": Scarlett and Max.
- Total Drama Action:
- The animation of Mike and Zoey kissing seen in Mike's head is taken from "Grand Chef Auto," except they actually kiss, also with rain added and an angle mirrored.
- This marks the second time in the series that Zoey has made it to the final three.
- This is the second time that a contestant has gotten a sole vote to decide whom to eliminate during the final three, the first being in Total Drama: Revenge of the Island.
- Ironically, Zoey received this privilege, while it is she who was eliminated last time this occurred.
- With Mal failing to win this episode's challenge, he and Justin are the only antagonists to have never won individual immunity.
- This is the third pirate-themed episode, with the others being "Search and Do Not Destroy" (Island) and "Mutiny on the Soundstage" (Action).
- Chris wears the same pirate costume in each of these episodes.
- The pirate ship set from "Mutiny on the Soundstage" reappears in this episode.
- This is the third time in which Chris paused a scene to make way for a commercial break.
- This is the third time a contestant is eliminated per Chris's decision for destroying his belongings.
- The first is Sierra in "Awwwwww, Drumheller," and the second is Duncan in "You Regatta Be Kidding Me."
- Coincidentally, all three contestants were placed 4th in the season that occurs to them.
- The first is Sierra in "Awwwwww, Drumheller," and the second is Duncan in "You Regatta Be Kidding Me."
- Gwen saying she's never coming back to Camp Wawanakwa foreshadows the island's fate in the next episode, as well as Gwen herself being required to return as Zoey's helper.
References
- The title of this episode is a reference to the American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful.
- The result of Gwen's failed attempt at restoring the painting of Chris is a reference to the failed restoration of the Ecce Homo painting by Cecilia Giménez.
Goofs
- In the video of Mal sabotaging the boats in "You Regatta Be Kidding Me," his hair was flipped up, while it is down in the episode.
- When Fang hears and smiles at Scott's response, the diamond in his teeth is missing.
- The diamond is also missing when he grabs the bucket full of fish Scott put as a trap.
- When Mal snarls at the snapping turtle that is hiding in his chest, the gap in his teeth is missing.
- As Mal arrives dragging Scott back to Chris, Chris refers to him as "Mal" even though he still refers to him as Mike to not unveil his identity to other contestants. Puzzlingly, Zoey doesn't even react to Chris calling Mike that.
