The Boss Baby: Back in Business is an American computer-animated web series produced by DreamWorks Animation and a follow-up of the 2017 animated film The Boss Baby, loosely based on the book of the same name by Marla Frazee. The series premiered on Netflix on April 6, 2018.

JP Karliak voices the titular character, replacing Alec Baldwin; only Eric Bell Jr. has reprised his role from the film, returning as the triplets.

Plot

With the help of his big brother and partner-in-crime, Tim, Boss Baby continues to navigate the cutthroat corporate jungle gym of Baby Corp., while angling to achieve the near-impossible: a work-life balance.

Bad Qualities

1. The show completely defeats the purpose of the ending in the original film, in which Boss Baby returns to the Templeton family as a regular baby, having finally quit his job. Here, Boss Baby is back in business, hence the title, undoing his character development from the film. In fact, this entire show just feels like fanfiction, that was brought to life, for no apparent reason.
2. Poor attempts at humor, with toilet humor being very common, like the scene in episode one where Scooter Buskie pukes on Jimbo's teddy bear for 7 seconds.
   • Strangely, there are several bad political jokes in the series, like in one episode, when Tim suggested helping Scooter out, Staci refers to him as a liberal just because he wants to help Scooter in a simple way, and why, or how do these babies care about, or even know about American politics, anyway?
3. There are some major inconsistencies in the show:
   1. The show's supposed to take place sometime, after the events of the film. However, at the end of the film, the Boss Baby becomes a normal baby, but in the show, he is still working at Baby Corp, still being referred to as the Boss Baby.
   2. Neither Tim, nor his parents refer to Boss Baby as, "Theodore Lindsey Templeton", at all, which was the name they gave him, at the end of the movie. It seems as if they never even gave him a name at all.
      • Though in the final episode, the name is mentioned.
   3. The characters have been dumbed down:
      1. Tim was changed from a kid, whose trademark is his imagination, to a kid whose trademark is his love for cookies.
      2. Staci was changed from a sweet little girl, with a love of kindergarten, to an aggressive tough girl, who also made babies lose at some contest, in "Monster Machine".
      3. Jimbo was changed from an already annoying idiot, whose trademark is his love for puppies, to an even more of an annoying idiot whose trademark is his love for kittens.
      4. The triplets were changed from being helpful, who actually do something, to being completely useless, as they mostly do nothing, but stay at Baby Corp.
      5. Janice became way more unlikable, and worse than her husband, Ted. For example, Ted promises to take a camp with permission, but she screws it, and ruins his dream, making her very pointless.
4. Boss Baby's boss from the original film, Big Boss Baby, doesn't appear in the show, and is replaced with the Mega Fat CEO Baby.
   • Speaking of Mega Fat CEO Baby, in the first season, he is shown to be an annoying character, and a complete moron who annoys Boss Baby, and wants him to get fired. His terrible voice, combined with his jerk persona, only made him even more irritable.
5. The animation itself, judging by major details on characters, is inconsistent with the movie, and it looks like a cutscene of a late Xbox 360 game, due to some recycled CGI models, as well the actual character animation feeling janky sometimes, mainly because of the software limitations.
6. The babies' cries are very annoying, unlike in the movie.
7. False advertising: This show is supposed to be a follow-up to the first film, when in reality, it feels more like a spin-off, taking place in an alternate reality, than an actual follow-up, as it barely has any continuity from the film. Thus, some feel that this is more of clear alternative continuity, from the film itself.
   • The trailer for the sequel, Family Business, confirms this.
   • Back in season 1, adults knowing that babies talk drives them insane, yet Timothy's daughter talks, and she's only a baby, though a good excuse is that Tim was a child, and he didn't go insane.
   • Theodore (Boss Baby) is an adult, yet in the show, he is still a baby. Even at the end of the first film, he was an adult.
8. In "Scooter Buskie", in the first episode, Boss Baby says, "it's like negotiating with North Korea!", a quote, which is very offensive to North Korean people, and it's especially inappropriate for a children's show. Not helping that it is the fact that it was the first episode of the show.
   • Okay, we get that North Korea bans all things from foreign countries, and the country doesn't have Netflix, but still...
9. The main plotline is a carbon copy of the plot of the original film, except instead of using puppies, this show uses cats, old people, a toy company named Bubbeezee, and a children's show named Pyg and Tam Love Babies.
10. The plot twist in the second season's finale makes no sense at all, as there is no way a senior would be able to masquerade herself, as a baby, for so long, without being caught.
11. The theme song tries to be cool, but it comes off as annoying, and stupid.
12. The show not only defeats the ending of the film, but also is completely unfaithful, as it destroys the message of the original film.
13. Its following show, called The Boss Baby: Back in the Crib, isn't any better, and what's even worse, is that just like this show, it also defeats the purpose of the ending, in the second film.

Good Qualities

1. Boss Baby/Theodore is the only character, who wasn't dumbed down in the show.
   • Some of the dumbed down characters, like Tim, Staci, Jimbo, and the triples still remained the same charm, in the movie counterpart.
   • Ted is way tamer, than Janice in this series.
2. Decent voice acting, despite the terrible voice acting for Mega Fat CEO Baby.
3. Mega Fat CEO Baby had a tragic backstory.
   • He also got some character development, some of which was shown in the episode, "Mega Fat", and generally improved as a character, in the third season.
4. On the topic of Mega Fat CEO Baby, his song in, "Six Well-Placed Kittens", "Ha Ha You're Fired!", is admittedly catchy and pretty funny.
5. The third season was a slight improvement, but not very much.
6. The lines, "WHAT THE BARF IS THIS GARBAGE?!?!?!", "THAT WAS HARD CASH, YOU MANIAC!!!", and, "YOU SHUT YOUR LYING MOUTH!!!" - Scooter Buskie
7. The show concluded with Boss Baby retiring from Baby Corp., and becoming a normal baby.

• The sequel for "The Boss Baby" confirmed that the series is unofficial.
