The Brady Bunch is a live-action television comedy family sitcom TV series that aired from 1969 to 1974.

Summary

The misadventures of a large family along their wise-cracking maid that’s united after a widower and a divorcee marry.

Why It Rocks

  1. It has many wonderful and unforgettable takes on comedy, such as the famous well-known scene where Marcia gets hit in the face with a football and her nose swells.
  2. The idea of a large step-family coming together to form a whole new family while living under one roof (with a housekeeper) is pretty original for the late 60s and early to mid 70s.
  3. The acting is magnificent, especially from the actors who play the members of the Brady family and their housekeeper, Alice.
  4. It immediately became one of the most popular live-action television shows during the late 1960s and early 1970s era.
  5. The show’s theme song is very catchy, upbeat and memorable, telling us how the Brady's came together as a one big, happy (step)family.
  6. Likable, relatable and interesting characters, such as Mike and Carol Brady along with all their children/step-children, Greg, Marcia, Peter, Jan, Bobby & Cindy, and their housemaid, Alice.
  7. A great use of a laugh track.
  8. Groovy songs, like “Time to Change” and “Sunshine Day”.
  9. Some of the episodes in the show have some pretty good morals for the viewers.
  10. The relationship between the (step)siblings is very heartwarming.
  11. It gained several spin-offs, such as “The Brady’s”, “The Brady Brides” and the animated-fantasy sequence, “The Brady Kids”.
  12. Each of the Brady kids have very diverse personalities.
  13. Many memorable lines, like "Mom always said don’t play ball in the house", “Something suddenly came up.”, "(in a Humphrey Bogaert voice) Pork chops and apple sauce. Ain't that swell??” and Jan’s famous line "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia!".
  14. It would later receive a film adaptation in 1995, The Brady Bunch Movie, followed by two sequels, 1996's A Very Brady Sequel and 2002's The Brady Bunch in the White House.

Bad Qualities

  1. The show was considered to have "jumped the shark" with the addition of Cousin Oliver in its final few episodes, who was meant to be the aging Bobby's replacement.
  2. It can be incredibly and noticeably hammy from time to time.
  3. Cindy could often be bratty and antagonistic, often seeming to snitch on her siblings on purpose.
