The Brak Show is a short-lived American adult animated sitcom created by Jim Fortier, Andy Merrill, and Pete Smith for Cartoon Network's late-night programming block, Adult Swim. The Brak Show serves as a spin-off of the animated television series, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, for which the show's creators originally wrote, and featured recurring characters from Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Cartoon Planet

Why It Should Leave It To Brak

  1. The series is a nice spin-off to Space Ghost: Coast to Coast with Brak as a teenager living a good life who was previously a full villain in the 1966 series being the main character.
  2. Memorable and likable characters such as:
    • Brak
    • Zorak
    • Their Parents: (Dad, Jarvis as called in one of the bumpers, and Mom, Mother as called by Jarvis)
    • Mr Thundercleese
  3. Space Ghost and Moltar return as guest appearances in the episode: "Runaway".
  4. There are references to the previous "Space Ghost" series and "Cartoon Planet".
  5. Great voice acting, especially by George Lowe who voiced both Dad and Space Ghost in "Runaway" and C. Martin Crocker.
  6. The intro theme is very catchy.
  7. Smooth and detailed animation.
  8. The first season has creative and unique intro names such as: "Leave it to Brak", "Diff'rent Braks", "Gimme a Brak", "The Braks of Life", B.J and the Brak", "Laverene and Brak", "Brak's My Momma", "Father Knows Brak" and "Petticoat Brak".
  9. Clever writing and humor based on other sitcom family shows.
  10. Lots of funny and memorable quotes:
    • "I am sick of being pushed around like a stolen shopping cart full of rotten pumpkin meat!"
    • "You found your real parents?"
    • "Mother, people only invite you to dinner for three reasons: to sell you vitamins, to drug you and take unpleasant snapshots, or to convert you to their hideous farming religion!"
    • "Don't talk to me mom, I'm a murderer!"

Bad Qualities

  1. There are some animations that are not good, mostly notable characters walking.
  2. Just like in the original Space Ghost series, Zorak can sometimes be unlikable.
  3. There are some mean-spirited moments, especially by Zorak.
  4. The series finale "Cardburkey" ended the series on a cliffhanger with the Brak family turning into a penguin and sadly it won't be solved because it got canceled. An ad for reruns after the show ended shows Brak back to normal...except he's been forced to live in a garbage dump and is rather bitter about it.
    • At least during the original airing, there was a brief epilogue where Brak and his dad respond to Adult Swim canceling them.
  5. The extremely creepy Halloween Bumper titled "We Will Kill You"
  6. Just like every other lesser-known show, it didn't last too long and ended very fast.
  7. Joanna Daniel does a poor job voicing Mom and she doesn't sound as good as Marsha Crenshaw, luckily she returned in the series finale and the webisode.

Trivia

  • At one time the series was in development for Cartoon Network, instead of Adult Swim.
    • The crew also considered expanding on the variety show format before the idea to make it a sitcom.
  • George Lowe voices Dad and Space Ghost in the episode "Runaway".
  • Mom was voiced by Marsha Crenshaw in season 1 and early Season 2 and later voiced by Joanna Daniel from season 2 onwards. It was mentioned when both Moms appear as penguins in the finale, arguing over who was the better one.
  • Dad was originally meant to be of average height. A mistake when compositing a scene made him much smaller than everything else around him, and it was just deemed funnier to have him be comically tiny compared to nearly every other character in the show.
