The Christmas Brigade is a 1997 Christmas CGI-animated film, the sequel to 1995's The Christmas Light. Like its predecessor, it was also only released on VHS.
Plot
The Christmas Brigade - consisting of Santa, the newly-reformed Burton the elf, Jennifer, and Isaac the elf, sets out to stop the evil Dr. D and bring the magic of Christmas to every single day of the year.
Why It Doesn't Have the Christmas Spirit
- The movie has all the problems of the previous film, including the cheap CGI animation, terrible voice acting, etc.
- In fact, the CGI animation is even worse here, as the characters move very stiff, and the frame rate is awful and choppy compared to the original film, which was a lot more fluid and smoother than this.
- It's unbelievable that a 1997 CGI-animated movie like this has cheap animation, considering that Hercules, Princess Mononoke, Anastasia, Perfect Blue and The End of Evangelion which all came out the same year as this film and has animation thirty times better than this.
- Like the movie's predecessor, the VHS was very infamous for being recorded in Extended Play (EP) mode AND encoded with Macrovision copy protection, resulting in overall horrid video quality.
- Most of the movie is filler to pad out the runtime.
- There's a song sung by beetles that doesn't contribute anything to the plot.
- The film's title song is sung four times through the entire film.
- Jennifer and Amy sang Christmas songs for over five minutes.
- At one point, the characters recap the events of the previous film for fifteen minutes.
- Burton is extremely annoying with his terrible jokes.
- Isaac's "inventions" are just excuses for the characters to use as little animation as possible (i.e. the characters teleporting and passing directly through walls).
- The movie's main story is dealt with abruptly and anticlimactically.
- A lot of the new characters are just slightly modified models of the characters from the previous film.
Redeeming Qualities
- The movie can be considered a "so bad its good" movie.
- "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a Good Night!"
