"The Dictator Switch" (どくさいスイッチ Dokusai Suitchi) is an episode from the 2005 anime series.

Plot

The Giants are playing a baseball match, and lose to the opponent team 2-18. Disappointed with Nobita for losing the match, Gian punishes Nobita to twenty rounds of the field. Complaining to Doraemon, Nobita wishes Gian had never existed, so Doraemon lends him the Dictator Switch. Supposedly made by a powerful dictator from the future who once ruled the whole world, it is able to erase anything from existence at the push of a button. Doraemon warns Nobita to use it with caution.

Dictator Qualities

  1. The concept of Nobita being the only one on earth and a switch about making someone disapear was a good idea but somewhat poorly executed because of how much torture it is for Nobita.
  2. It is somewhat a torture episode for Nobita, as he is alone and doesn't feel well about this, in fact he was almost depressed and just wanted to be with Doraemon and his friends again.
  3. Gian and Suneo once again bully Nobita for no reasons other than making fun of him, in fact it was because of this that this episode events did happen.
    • Not to mention that if it wasn't for the switch, then they might come off as karma houdini, especially that not only did Nobita got enough but also it was so bad that he wished that they disapear.
  4. Nobita, while still a likable character, he is a bit out of character for wanting that Gian and Suneo don't exist anymore, even if they bullied him, this is way too extreme.
    • And not to mention that his nightmare where everyone did insult him was so horrible that he wished to everyone to disapear, which is why this episode events started.
  5. The nightmare scene where Nobita get insulted by nearly everyone for no reasons is extremely mean-spirited and almost downright unwatchable, in fact it is so bad that it may be the absolute worst part of the entire episode, even if it doesn't last long.
  6. The pacing is incredibly slow, especially when Nobita is completely alone and that he had enough of it.
  7. Plot Hole: How does everyone did returned despite that even Doraemon disapear ? Does it happened because the writters wanted to ?

Good Qualities

  1. Despite being a bit out-of-character, Nobita is still likeable in this episode, and we can feel bad for him after being bullied by Gian and Suneo.
    • Doraemon and Shizuka are also likable as usual, and Doraemon did disapear to give a lesson to Nobita that being a dictator is a bad thing.
  2. Good Moral: Wishing for someone to not exist anymore will not always make you feeling good, and you should not try to make someone disapear.
  3. Good Ending: Everyone, including Doraemon, did returned to the world and we're not dead, so at least the episode ending in a nice way.
