The Fly is the 6th episode of Season 3 and the 40th episode of Mr. Bean: The Animated Series.
Plot
A fly disturbs Mr. Bean's sleeping, he uses his tools to get rid of it, but it escapes.
Why It Should Get Buzzed Off
- This is a cruel Mr. Bean torture episode, causing the fly to disrupt Mr. Bean's sleep.
- Mrs. Wicket and the fly are unlikable in this episode:
- Mrs. Wicket is upset that Mr. Bean is causing the noise because of his misfortunes to the fly. When he shouts after the fly flies away, she kicks him out for waking her up.
- The fly causes the episode's premise as a whole by disturbing Mr. Bean's sleep. Its buzzing noises, as usual like in real-life, is very annoying to listen.
- Mr. Bean's plans fail to attempt to get rid of the fly:
- He puts a "no fly" poster on the window in his bedroom, but what he is not aware of is that he does not close the window of the kitchen while he is sleeping.
- He uses a bug spray, but the substance of it is empty.
- He rolls up a magazine and uses it as a bat to get rid of the fly, but he accidentally breaks the lightbulb.
- He also uses the racquet to flatten the fly, but it suddenly escapes because it has a net on it.
- He even uses a book to squish the fly while it lands on the picture of a fly. Once, Mr. Bean finds the 'F" in the dictionary, he observes the fly, but it escapes before landing it on the donut.
- While the flying is seeing the donut, Mr. Bean uses a trash bin to trap it. However, when Mr. Bean opens it, the fly flies away. He also smashes the lid using the hammer in order to make it flat. His plan succeeds after he traps the fly in the trash bin and closes it with a lid, he attempts to throw it away (though, Mrs. Wicket would hear the noise of the metal clanging once it lands on the ground) but Mrs. Wicket scolds him to clean up the garbage he dumped on the floor. The garbage Mr. Bean dumped is disgusting.
- To squash the fly, Mr. Bean traps it using a blanket, then uses a frying pan to whack it. After finishing whacking, he touches the fly, but it is awake and, once again, flies away.
- He even traps it using a fridge so that the fly will fly away from outside. Afterward, Mr. Bean shouts in victory, but Mrs. Wicket tells him to stay out, which is mean-spirited.
- Mr. Bean sleeps with a ridiculously hot temperature, which makes no sense, considering that he sleeps with no ill effects in most episodes.
- It also happens in real life when there are no fans or air conditioners in your room. However, Mr. Bean would have opened the fan to sleep comfortably instead.
- Bad Ending: After Mr. Bean is kicked out of the apartment, he sleeps using a fridge while the fly sleeps in his room.
Redeeming Qualities
- Mr. Bean is a likable character in this episode.
- There is a funny scene where Mrs. Wicket is watching wrestling, but the fly interrupts her situation.
- Mrs. Wicket sees that her favorite show ended, with a scene of a butterfly touching a flower, is funny.

- This is one of the few Mr. Bean episodes to take place at night.
