The Future is Wild is a Canadian children's 3D computer animated television series based on the speculative evolution documentary of the same name. It is about four teenagers and their pet Squibbon who travel to various environments in the future to find a new home for humanity. It ran from October 13, 2007 to July 5, 2008 on the Real Toons Block on the Discovery Kids channel. It is also the second Show on Real Toons to feature time travel, the first being Time Warp Trio, as well as the only one to be 3D as the rest are 2D.

Plot

A young red-headed teenage girl from the year 12,000 A.D. named Cassiopeia G. (C.G. for short) explores three periods in the future: 5, 100, and 200 million years, with her three friends from the 21st century (Ethan Bolato, Emily Lornatae and Luis Calabasas ) and pet Squibbon to find a new home for Humanity which is threatened by a mega ice age back at C.G.'s home era.

Why It Proves That The Future is Really Wild

  1. The show sets apart from other cartoons with time travel by having it be used to explore various speculative ecosystems set out in the future, making this series innovative and creative.
  2. There are some really good, funny and heartfelt moments.
  3. Great character development and interactions.
  4. Good usage of CGI animation.
  5. The futuristic creatures from the original documentary are great to see.
  6. The futuristic gadgets and the Time Flyer (a time machine from 12,000 A.D. that C.G. and the gang used to travel through the three different eras in the future) are really cool and awesome to see.
  7. Interesting premise.
  8. Good story and characters.
  9. Beautiful and enchanting intro song.

Bad Qualities

  1. The show only lasted for one season with 26 episodes.
  2. The North American desert, Mediterranean basin, Rainshadow Desert and Global Ocean and their inhabitants were not shown.
  3. There are some downer moments with gross-out humor. Thankfully, it's shown less and less as the series progresses.
