Plot

When Wendy tries to fix one of her girlfriends up with Butters, she ends up in the counselor's office.

Why It's Jealous of Being Bad

  1. Misleading title: Despite the title, this episode, except for the actor from the Hobbit series, had almost nothing to do with The Hobbit franchise since it's mostly about the girls that photoshop themself just to be more popular, in which it's the cause of all the episode's problems.
  2. Almost no one in this episode is likable, since most, if not all of them are mean-spirited and the characters' mean-spirited nature is all over the place, especially when the girls are mad at Wendy for telling the truth about photoshop.
    • Wendy, while not completely unlikable and is likable in this episode, can be unlikable at times, especially when she yells at Butters due to how saying that Lisa is too fat for him, while she is right that calling someone fat is not a good thing, she does this because he refused to go with Lisa, which isn't her business, making it much worse.
    • The girls, especially Red and Bebe, are unlikable to Wendy in the middle of it, since they treat Wendy like a raging girl when she tries to tell the truth about photoshopping, just because they thought that she was jealous, not only that, but it's made even worse by the fact that they use photoshopping for hanging out with a boy.
    • While still somewhat likable, Butters is unlikable at the beginning where he says to Lisa that she is too fat for him and that after Craig made fun of Lisa for trying to ask out Butters, he launches about it along with the other boys, even Cartman said that they should not mock her for being fat, however, he said that they should mock her for being ugly.
    • Mr. Mackey constantly sends Wendy to the office due to him thinking that she is jealous of Lisa he almost expelled Wendy due to that and would send her to another school for some time due to being jealous, which is not even because of that, but because she tried to tell the truth about the photoshop app.
  3. It is a massive torture episode for Wendy since she is treated like crap unfairly in almost the whole episode, to the point that it's the reason why this episode is poorly executed and overall really bad, this is especially true toward Wendy and at the beginning, Lisa.
  4. Due to the misleading title of the episode as mentioned in the WIJOBB #1, this episode feels nothing like a The Hobbit parody, and feels more like a regular South Park episode rather than a parody of a franchise, thanks to the photoshop subject.
  5. The idea of this episode is poorly executed and is also cliche because the premise of it is unoriginal, and was executed much better than this in a lot of other media, it almost doesn't feel like something that comes from South Park because of this.
  6. Awful Moral: If someone doesn't find you pretty or handsome, then you can photoshop yourself and get more chances to hang out with boys/girls, which isn't how it works!
  7. While he says it nicely, Butters saying to Lisa that she is too fat for him is a kind of mean-spirited, he could have easily said that he is not interested instead of fat shaming, it was also the main reason why Wendy was mad at him.
  8. Depressing ending: Not only is this ending a terrible way to end season 17, but it's also horribly depressing, since we can see that Wendy abandons her plan about stopping the photoshopping and photoshopping herself while being sad.
  9. To make the matter worse, everyone think that Wendy is jealous of the other girls when she tried to tell the truth about photoshopping, which make it even more of a torture for Wendy, and make most of the characters unlikable.
  10. The photoshopping doesn't even make the characters design better as the characters think, since they actually ruin their own image with the exception of Lisa, and as said before, the girls only did this for hanging out with boys, which doesn't work like that, even for a TV show it doesn't make any sense.
  11. Overall, it ended season 17 on a terrible note, as not only the ending is way too depressing, but also it's mostly because of how poorly executed this episode is, it doesn't even feel like a proper end either.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. At least it gives more screen time to Wendy, despite being a terrible episode that is very mean-spirited, if it was executed in a much better way, then this could have been one of the best episodes that center on Wendy.
    • Also, this episode shows that Wendy had potential for having episode focused to her, but despite being interesting, it was awfully executed and way too mean-spirited, even by South Park standards.
  2. There are still some funny moments at times, especially some of the scenes with Wendy.
  3. Wendy, Lisa, and most of the boys are likable characters, despite Wendy being mean to Butters due to him calling Lisa fat.
  4. Some emotional moments, such as the ending, despite being too depressing and a bad way to end season 17.
  5. At least it shows that you should not be jealous because of someone more popular than you, but unfortunately that moral is almost pointless due to how badly this episode executed it.

Trivia

  • Timmy Burch is the only boy seen being photoshopped.
  • Red was the only one of the girls who got photoshopped that was not insulted by Wendy.
  • While looking through the photoshopped pictures of the girls, Craig's mobile operator is called "Singular". "Singular" is a parody of a defunct mobile operator called Cingular, which is now part of AT&T.
