Plot

In November 1984, during the late Cold War era and involves a rogue Soviet naval captain who wishes to defect to the United States with his officers and the Soviet Navy's newest and most advanced nuclear missile submarine, a Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius is given command of Red October, a new Typhoon-class nuclear missile submarine with a stealth "caterpillar drive", rendering it undetectable to passive sonar. Meanwhile, CIA analyst Jack Ryan thinks Soviet nuclear submarine commander Captain Marko Ramius is planning to defect but only has a few hours to find him and the submarine.

Why It's a Successful Hunt

  1. It is the very first Jack Ryan film series that managed to stay faithful to the 1984 novel of the same name.
  2. Sean Connery gave amazing performances as Marko Ramius, Commanding officer of Red October (SSBN).
  3. Director John McTiernan gives a wonderful direction throughout the movie.
  4. The movie has a good pace throughout the movie.
  5. Besides Sean Connery, the acting is very good, especially for the cast members including Alec Baldwin as Jack Ryan, CIA intelligence analyst, author, Professor of Naval History at the United States Naval Academy, and Joss Ackland as Andrei Lysenko, Soviet Ambassador to the United States.
  6. Very nice special effects, especially with the submarines.
  7. Memorable lines such as "You arrogant ass. You've killed us!"
  8. Awesome effects for the Submarines.
  9. Amazing soundtrack that was composed by Basil Poledouris.
  10. Wonderful cinematography.
  11. The scene where Jack Ryan goes on a shootout with Loginov right before the final submarine battle begins amazing.
  12. The final submarine battle scene with the torpedoes is extremely awesome.

Bad Qualities

  1. While the pacing is good, it sometimes can be pretty slow at times, considering the runtime is 135 minutes long.
  2. Some of the effects didn't age well.
  3. The story sometimes, can be very confusing to some people.
