The Incredible Hulk is an action-adventure video game developed by Edge of Reality and published by Sega in June 2008 for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. It is based on the 2008 film of the same name. The DS version was developed by Amaze Entertainment.

Why It's Anything But Incredible

  1. The graphics are very awful and look like something that came out during the middle era of the Nintendo 64 or the Sega Saturn. It should be worth mentioning that the game came out in 2008, not in 1997. The textures are very low-in-quality, the models look terrible, the special effects look atrocious and the font in the PC version looks like it was ran over by a lawn mower.
  2. The conversion for the PC version is not from the Xbox 360 or the PS3 version, but from the slowly-becoming outdated PS2, which itself isn't really a good idea to make the PC version be a conversion from a home console that was already becoming outdated in 2008. Making the conversion either from the PS3 or the Xbox 360 version would be a better choice than the PS2.
  3. The controls are absolutely bad; Hulk controls like an old tractor with broken wheels. He is also unable to be controlled even during a very slight jump. Also, when you perform any of his moves, it takes like 2 seconds for him to perform the move, as if his speed was inspired from slow heavyweights in fighting games.
  4. The missions are very repetitive and boring; they are either just destroy something that is unfriendly to you and get from point A to point B. Not to mention, sometimes you have to move around the city between missions for minutes, not to mention that 30% of the game is just generic moving around the city, even if there are 14 missions in the game.
  5. The audio is not golden in the slightest; the soundtrack is just a bunch of random loops that last only a few seconds and don't make the player wanna play the game longer just to listen to the soundtrack, while the sound effects are empty and sound crappy.
  6. The options menu is absolutely poor; you can only change the Y and X axis of the mouse in the PC version, turn on vibration, volume of sounds, music, dialogues, turn on subtitles and change the mouse frequency, which the latter only applies to the PC version just like changing the Y and X axis. That's it, nothing else. The only way to change the resolution of the game in the PC version is only when starting the game up, instead of having an option to change the resolution.
  7. The storyline is very weak and looks like as if it was made by a student who never heard of the Hulk in the very first place. The storyline doesn't even attempt to tell the player to meet the genesis or participate in important moments in the protagonist's life.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The voice acting is alright; notably, Edward Norton reprises his role as the Hulk and still does a good job.
  2. The DS version is superior compared to the console and PC versions, and is a fun 2D platformer instead of an action-adventure game with boring gameplay.
  3. Despite the boring gameplay, causing the destruction in the city can be fun sometimes.

Reception

Upon release, The Incredible Hulk received mixed-to-negative reviews. On Metacritic, the Xbox 360 and PS3 version have a 55/100 rating, the PS2 and DS version have a 50/100 rating, the Wii version has a 47/100 rating, while the PC version has a 33/100 rating from critics.[2]
