The Lion King: Simba's Might Adventure is a 2000 Adventure video game made for the PlayStation 1. Despite it's name, it is based on both The Lion King and it's sequel The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.

Summary

On the Pride Lands, a young lion cub name Simba is born and will one day take Mufasa's place as King of Pride Rock, but Scar, the evil younger brother of Mufasa and uncle of Simba plans to take over the Pride Lands by attempting to kill Simba, and later on in the story after Simba defeats Scar, Scar's wife Zira also attempts to take over the Pride Lands.

Why This Mighty Adventure Sucks

  1. It feels somewhat un-needed for The Lion King to be made on the PS1, as there was already a The Lion King game made for the SNES and Sega Genesis previously.
  2. The title of the game makes no since, as the "Simba's Mighty Adventure" part makes it feel more like a sequel then a solo game.
  3. The story for The Lion King: Simba's Might Adventure makes many unnecessary changes that were not in the original film.
    1. After the stampede segment, the game never shows off the popular scene of Scar killing Mufasa and blaming Simba which cause the later to run away in guilt as Scare send his Hyena minions to kill Simba, and for reasons unknown, later stages has Mufasa still talking to Simba as if he's still alive.
    2. During the level to save Pumbaa from Nala, Timon shows little to no concern about his best friend going to be eating by Nala, and he will Mock Simba (the player) if he lose a life.
    3. After beating Scar, instead of the game ending, it now cuts to Simba running through a fiery forest as he tries to save his daughter and stopping Zira who is the real final boss, despite those events happening in The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride.
  4. Odd dialogue moments.
  5. Crappy loading screens. Not only are they long, but for reason's unknown, they show off a choppy image of the cover art.
  6. A very poor title screen with only three options.
    1. On that note, there's an error in one of the titles, with the third Option saying "Rafiki's".
  7. Slippery controls that is very car-like, meaning that Simba will slip and slide as he turns when running.
    1. This game was made the same year that Spyro: Year of the Dragon (which also has the main player character being a quadruplet) was made and it perfected the controls.
  8. An incredibly clunky camera that will steer Simba automatically when it turns.
  9. Bland level design that are the exact same, even the 2D segments are the same.
  10. Every stage is as simple as "run from the beginning to the end for 5 minutes and beat the stage".
  11. Very poor attacking options. The roll attack will not move during the attack, will leave you open for attacks and you can't point yourself to the enemy to set it off without getting hit first, the roar attack has a VERY short range and the pounce attack is way too delayed and will also leave you open to enemy attacks.
    1. They also feel pointless, as Simba can easily defeat the enemies normally by jumping on them.
  12. Whenever you attack, move or even jump, you will be lock on for no reason, making it easy for enemies to land cheap hits.
  13. Lame boss battles, all of them have an incredible basic attack pattern.
    1. On that note, this game also have very few boss battles, as there are only three bosses in total.
  14. Simba has the option to grab ledges, yet sometimes he won't grab ledges, leading to cheap moments were he will fall of the edge.
  15. Out-dated/poor graphics with little-to-no detail and lazy character models, both of which that looks like an early beta game.
    1. Again, Spyro: Year of the Dragon came out the same year before The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure, and it look way better then this.
  16. Bland coloring with very few colors, even the background are just pictures.
  17. Poor collision detection.
  18. Very bland bonus levels that don't serve anything but padding.
    1. The first of the levels has the player control Pumbaa to sit on Timon, its bland, boring, and not to mention kind of disgusting.
    2. The second level is a Matching Tiles-type game, which is incredible easy as most of the time, both matching tiles are next to each other.
    3. The third/final level has the player take control of Simba's paw as he catches falling bugs to score points and will end if the bugs go by Simba's paw three times, but there are times when two bugs will fall at the same time and its impossible to grab them all
  19. Collectibles are incredible easy to find as they are out in the open most of the time.
  20. Though out the stage there are Simba Tokens that after being collected, will unlock more clips for the film just like other Disney Games like A Bugs Life and Toy Story 2, which sounds cool on paper, but the VHS version of The Lion King had already came out, is way cheaper and for reasons unknown, the main voice actors got replace for the clips.
  21. The last levels of the game are Majorly frustration as every enemy can defeat Simba in a few hits.
  22. Incredibly short length, The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure can be beaten in less then an hour.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The soundtrack is good.
  2. The voice acting is good as all of main cast from The Lion King return for The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure.
  3. The Game Boy Color version is decent, as it is a simple 2D platformer that feel more like the game based on the 1994 film.

Reception

Simba's Mighty Adventure received negative reviews, with the PlayStation version scored a 30 on Metacritic, and IGN gave a "bad" score of 4 out of 10.
