Why The Tree Was Anything But "Magical", and Got Chopped Down for Firewood
- To start of with, the plot is basically is straightly copied from the 1939 film, The Wizard of Oz, where this film follows a girl who meets a witch, and which uses black and white scenes, and color for the reality scenes, and that movie rips off elements from the film.
- Atrocious voice acting.
- The special effects are laughably bad.
- The soundtrack is terrible, irritating, and painful to listen to.
- Poor production values, even for 1964 film standards.
- There is some use of product placement in the chase scene, such as Mobil.
- Characters are unlikable, such as the main character, Mark.
- The costumes, and props are poor, and cheap.
- Bad release date: The film came out days after another Christmas film, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, which wasn't any better.
- Very poor editing.
- Because of poor editing, the sound is off for some scenes.
- The film is too short in general, only lasting for almost 60 minutes.
- Some scenes are way long, like the lawnmower scene.
- False advertising: In the poster, Mark is seen wearing a wizard hat, yet he does not wear it in the film.
Magical Qualities
- The bad voice acting, poor production values, and plot can come off as intentionally "so bad it's good" for some.
- "I guess I'll have to find another greedy boy to be my slave. Maybe YOU!"
