"The Metric System vs. Freedom" is the 24th episode of the 5th season of Teen Titans Go!.

Plot

Robin teaches the other Titans about the difference between the Imperial and the Metric systems.

Why It Fails to Measure Up

  1. Robin is very unlikable here as he constantly says that the Imperial system is superior to the Metric system and that anyone who disagrees is a mad scientist.
  2. The way he acts throughout the episode is also nonsensical considering most of the world (except the United States, Myanmar, Liberia, and even the UK to some extent) uses the Metric system.
  3. The beginning shows Robin being offended over Beast Boy taking out a liter of soda instead of a gallon of milk, which shows that, in this episode at least, he can't stand the usage of Metric units.
  4. The scene where the Titans hallucinate after eating the bad muffins is just disturbing and out of nowhere. Especially where Starfire has green muffins rooted to her eyes, ears, and hands.
  5. This episode also has the same issues as "Hot Salad Water" from the same show. That being it over-glorifies the American way of life over that of other countries, which could be seen as xenophobic.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The test site to test The Titans' knowledge of the measure system looks impressive.

Trivia

  • Ironically, the digital ink and paint for Teen Titans Go! is supplied from Canada and South Korea, two countries that have fully converted to the Metric system since the 1980s.
