Yet another political Family Guy episode.
| ||||||||||||||||
|
"The Movement" is the 14th episode of the 18th season of Family Guy.
Plot
When Peter starts coaching for Quahog's minor league baseball team, he gets constipated during the national anthem and must kneel, unintentionally becoming the face of racial justice.
Why It Can't Move Anywhere
- Like many political Family Guy episodes, it only exists to get the staff and even Seth MacFarlane (even though he doesn't write for the show) in hot water over their controversial political/religious views. In this case, it's over the national anthem protests.
- Peter is extremely unlikeable in this episode.
- One of the worst examples of Peter causing trouble is when he threatens to murder a kid with a crossbow in front of his dad's face all over why Smokey the Bear doesn't wear a shirt.
- The plot of this episode is somewhat forced.
- There are some jokes explained before the punchline is set up, such as, the TV announces that Seinfeld keeps getting edited down more and more for syndication, and later Cleveland announces that The Jefferons and all shows are edited out for syndication.
- The Nike cutaway gag, while funny, drags on a little too bit and is kind of disturbing.
Redeeming Qualities
- Peter gets his comeuppance by getting smacked by Carter with a bat.
- There are some funny jokes:
- The part where Homer Simpson sits in the crowd and says, "I'm on vacation!" is pretty funny.
- The Nike Ad cutaway was funny, despite it was disturbing.
- Meg singing the American Dad intro was hilarious.
- The literal "Cool Hand Luke" cutaway.
- Homer Simpson's Cameo.
- Kevin Nealon guest staring as himself.
Reception
The episode has a rating of 6.6/10 on IMDb.
